Huh, now that you mention it, it is kinda strange.
I also threw money at stuff like Bloodstained, Hollow Knight, Blasphemous etc. and those games had free DLCs for their backers and not backers alike. And Hollow Knight had a really small Australian team with basically no experience behind it as well. Those games were also pretty darn complete on release day and only got more stuff over time.

Backers funded the development of Shanty, and she was promised as part of the original campaign. There was no reason to expect that she wouldn’t be developed.
Waitaminute.
Correct me if I am wrong (English isn’t my native language), but if backers fully funded Shanty to be a part of the original campaign, then shouldn’t she be… like… already in the game, and NOT a paid DLC?
Because now it sounds like people paid Mane6 to make something they can pay for again.

What Shadowking said; They upgraded the game’s graphics from a native resolution of 720p to 1080p, and 1080p scales up to 4K much more cleanly (mathematics) than 720p does. The game is not native 4K, it just looks nicer when blown up at 4K than it used to.

The reason the servers are mostly empty are due to the game relative lack of popularity in comparison to other fighting games on the market. That isn’t the fault of the devs who make the game.
Saying that the people that play the game are only the people who want to stomp on noobs is totally wrong, we just had a huge influx of new players from the recent update, and I still run into newer players when I play.
The future story mode chapters are going to be developed and added to the game as free updates, it simply isn’t feasible for a small team like them to be able to complete everything right away, so I’m fine with waiting for the future chapters. Plus, the pixel lobbies (like Oleander’s) are most likely also being made for the story mode and then just being made available as a pixel lobby, so it gets used in both cases.

Used to play the game, hell I threw over 100 bucks at the indiegogo before the game was anything more than a dream. Never got my special backer stuff by the way.

Here is their Backer rewards production roadmap. Log into Backerkit. They’ve already delivered on a lot of the backer rewards already, including putting your name in the credits, if you gave to their Indiegogo. Check out the credits and try to find your name in them; the video description has timecodes to help, based on what your donation level was.
You say you gave at the $100 level, which would make your title “Unicorn Wizard”. Go to 4:09 in the credits to find your name. https://youtu.be/EpKiyDuib8k?t=249

Like I do not understand why even focus on stuff like pixel lobbies when servers are ridiculously empty. Does not matter when I check the lobbies, there is usually a list of empty, dead servers, and maybe one half full server and one with like one or two people in it.
At least if they were to focus on the story content, people could play that once nobody is playing (cause lets be honest the only people who still play the game are selfish people who just wanna annihilate people, they do not really care about other peoples fun). At least the game would have something to it.
But the pixel lobbies directly correlate with what is being added to story mode. We got the Forest pixel lobby because it’s a tile set for the story mode that they added to lobbies. So they are working on story mode. @Background Pony #E76F

So, they join the only server with like eight people on it, only to find out that everyone there has been breathing the game for some reason cause if they were to play a game with actual competitive community instead of using bugs and exploits to victory, they would have gotten their arses handed to them.
So obviously the new player leaves cause they cannot find anyone to spar against and get better, like they would in something like SF or BB. Hell we just got a new Melty Blood game and I heard its pretty fantastic.
I agree with the last part and that’s why I think they desperately need mini games or something that isn’t pure try hard in that game, however, you clearly haven’t seen any of the tournaments. They are all extremely skilled in those matches, and I have yet to see any exploits.
Background Pony #E76F
Before adding a new char, they should have finished the base game and fulfilled base game backer promises/goals. Imagine making a car and adding stuff like spoilers, neons and sidekits before adding airbags, mirrors and electronics. Also, finishing backer stuff should take priority right after base game stuff cause backers kinda funded the darn thing .
Seriously, never before have I been more disappointed with backing something. And I threw my money at that darn Megaman knock-off game a while back. At least that got finished.

Right now every new player buys the game, plays the storymode which is by the way extremely shoddy at best and developers literal have the stance of “git gud” to proper criticism like they were some Reddit trolls. These new players quickly figure out that storymode is not done even after years of development so they decide to check out the pixel lobbies only to find a graveyard of servers. So, they join the only server with like eight people on it, only to find out that everyone there has been breathing the game for some reason cause if they were to play a game with actual competitive community instead of using bugs and exploits to victory, they would have gotten their arses handed to them.

Nah just salty about lazy devs and ignored promises.
No. I agreee that its taking a long time, but they have done a bit for the game
They added in an entirely new character that plays very different, they gave several characters new moves, they rebalanced pretty much everypony, and are working hard on the backer support stuff as well as Story Mode chapter 2. If you follow the game you would have noticed the new pixel lobby, which most of the time correlates to what they are working on in Story Mode since it’s the same tiles.

Mate the storymode, which was promised to be there at launch, is not even finished.
Last time I checked the game is not Early Access.
Are you really so much of a fanboy that you cannot value your money and time better than this? Just get Street Fighter or Blaz or something.
Used to play the game, hell I threw over 100 bucks at the indiegogo before the game was anything more than a dream. Never got my special backer stuff by the way.
See, it is rather difficult to stay with community when the game gets released essentially unfinished, you finish all the content in an hour or two and the population of the game is so low that only elitist arseholes are left who bully all new players out of the game.
Updates on Steam confirm they are still working on Backer support stuff, and it’s a priority from what I remember.

Mate they have barely done anything with the game since it released on Steam. They have not even finished the storymode which was promised to come out together with the release on Steam. Heck, they gave us an overpriced character DLC BEFORE finishing the base game. Some attacks are not even finished after so long since release.
And instead of putting time and effort into actually finishing the game, they are going to tournaments where nobody actually cares about the game cause people are too busy playing finished fighting games.
All attacks are finished last time I checked.

If they took HALF of the effort they put into constantly micro-changing everything, updating the wrong things, and trying to make an unfinished product be noticed in the online tournament environment, and put that effort into the ACTUAL stuff
>
Actually, fighting games benefit from constant changes more then any other. The mix up of the meta makes the game fresh. Honestly they should do that more often.

It wasn’t just 4k, they made the game look and run WAAAYYYY better on all monitors around the board, because they were using the engine Skull Girls gave them which is fairly old I think. I noticed a big difference and I don’t have a 4k monitor.
I feel you on the rest though, they really need to hire more people or something. As of now, the only things to do in the game if you’ve played Chapter 1 is going into training mode, then online and getting your ass kicked. They need something to break up the try-hardness of the game, like some fun minigames. Dragon Ball Fighterz is another fighting game, and it has tons of side objectives that are really fun and probably were not very hard to add. For example my favorite is where you pick a team but A.I fight for you against another Ai team, so you’re rooting for your team to win and it’s completely random who actually does. It sounds stupid but when you’re with a friend its fun. I’m not saying TFH should do exactly that, but the concept of fun game modes like that is what needs to be added or else the game will stay dead.
As of now if you go into Online you get destroyed and the only thing to do is to repeat the process of training mode and then go back to online to get beat up again.

@Vee Stripe
Well, tbf, if they did take their time on the story, unfortunately it would mean delaying the game to take much longer time, by then, the popularity would’ve waned. (I know it’s already waning, so…)
Vee Stripe

Are they gonna release the chapters like Deltarune?
As in, one chapter every 2 years or so?
I bought that game when it was in early access, before the story mode, and even before the training missions were a thing.
I had super high hopes for this game, and I kinda feel that the studio laid their collective dick on the development of the story mode.
The reason people are salty isn’t because they’re not getting what they want.
They’re salty because they’re not getting what they PAID for. The game was meant to have FULL story mode on release. Not to mention the Linux and Mac ports (which were ALSO meant to be on Steam release, by the by).
For now, TFH is just pushing themselves all over online tournaments, like mentioned a few posts below me, and they don’t seem to do anything with the story itself.
Not to mention that the last big update consisted of 4K resolution models, which IMO seems a bit nonsensical, considering how few people still play this game (let alone have 4K monitors, at least according to Steam survey).
If they took HALF of the effort they put into constantly micro-changing everything, updating the wrong things, and trying to make an unfinished product be noticed in the online tournament environment, and put that effort into the ACTUAL stuff they promised to deliver on release, then I can guarantee, by now the game would be competing with early GG or Blazblue, and would be winning in that area.
