Flurry Heart quickly came down the staircase and headed for one of the service entrances that allowed deliveries to be made to the Crystal Palace. In spite of employing a large staff of maids, cooks, accountants, guards, and numerous specialists, the hallway which Flurry stepped out into was more or less vacant. Flurry had been counting that.
 
However it wasn’t completely vacant.
 
“Where are you going Flurry dear?” A familiar voice called out from behind her.
 
The young alicorn stopped. Then she let out a dramatic sigh. Turning around she found her mother Cadence and behind the pink alicorn was Flurry’s dad Shining Armor standing in the hallway. From the look on her mom’s face Flurry was sure that mom knew exactly where she was going.
 
Flurry pulled out her phone and started tapping out a text message as she spoke. “Out.” She said without looking away from the screen.
 
“Out where?” Mom said coolly.
 
“Out of here.” Flurry finished her text message and sent it on its way.
 
“Dressed like that?” Cadence pointed at her daughter’s outfit. Body hugging, studded, black leather pants, calf high, tasseled black leather boots, and a green tank top with the word Changelings printed on it. Fingerless black gloves, studded black armbands, and a similar dog collar, and two rings of jet black metal on her horn rounded out her outfit.
 
“Yeah.” Flurry said. She glanced at her phone as it chimed to announce the arrival of message. She typed a quick reply and the sent it on its way. Then she looked her mom in the eyes. “I’m going to meet up with some friends. Then we’re going catch a show.”
 
Shining spoke up. “Flurry honey. Are those actual inhibitor rings on your horn?”
 
“Uh. Yeah. So.”
 
“I think your father wants to know why.” Cadence eyed her.
 
Flurry rolled her eyes and took a deep breath. “I decided they were physically good symbols of my potential, but impotent power under this currently repressive situation.”
 
Shining stood there and tried to parse his daughter’s response. Flurry smirked. “See. All those philosophy classes and tutors are paying off now dad!”
 
Cadence scowled. “I think…what your father is really surprised about is that–”
 
“Is that I’m demonstrating agency and establishing my own agenda.” Flurry grinned at her mother. “See mom. All those vocabulary lessons you burden me with weren’t a waste of time either!”
 
Cadence glared at her daughter. “Back to your room dear. You’re still grounded!”
 
I’ve been wanting to draw rebellious, high school, heavy metal Flurry Heart for awhile but finally I got around to it.
