Not only that, but Pipp’s performance proved my suspicion that there were non-royals who were in on the lie. The one pony backstage who was manning the control console, at least. Now I just wonder how the queen got him to go along with it. Did he just buy into the queen’s ‘everypony is happy knowing that we royals can fly’ nonsense? Or was the queen holding something over him, whether it be blackmail, a hostage, or simply threat of exile?
I figured she just paid him a lot of money to keep his mouth shut.

In the movie there’s a scene where Zipp is showing Sunny and Izzy what used to be the original throne room. Sunny sees posters for both Maretime Bay and Bridlewood, proving that all three pony races did live together.
 
Then we see Zipp sadly looking up at another poster…
 

 
…when watching this scene, you can feel Zipp’s heartache.

My big question here is: is the whole ‘wires to pretend to fly’ thing just a personal fantasy? Or is it a con job of sorts to maintain power as some have theorized? The former is one thing, but if it’s the latter, how many ponies have to be in on it?
 
I was assuming the latter, that the royal family kept the pegasi awestruck by making them think they’re the last pegasi that can fly.
