The main reason they dragged on was because of the original manga that was being published around that time. I’m sure you can connect the dots for this.

One of the reasons why I never was a big fan of Dragon Ball. The fights just dragged on and on and on… it got boring after a while. And then they got another power-up form and then another and another… while always getting stronger and stronger. Even though it was already possible for the villains to destroy a planet at the BEGINNING of DBZ. I liked a lot of the characters, their personalities and several of the ideas they put in the show. But the action was boring. I watched DBZ until the end, because I really hoped that it would get better at some point.
 
Also, dragon balls are items that you can use to wish for ANYTHING! And what are they used for 90% of the time? Bringing dead people back to life. It’s a bit weird when the most interesting thing they did with such a plot device was wishing for a pair of panties.
 
Sorry, rant over. Needed to get that off my chest.

First of all so there’s no reason to be so rude.
 
Secondly, there’s no such thing as “cowardice” in the face of logic. I never said MLP can beat Dragon Ball or that Goku would die. I simply brought up how he may not be able to stop particular villains because certain characters are just beyond his means of dealing with problems. Not everything has to be a Death Battle, you know.
 
Thirdly, what you’re is EXACTLY what I’m saying. Both franchises have specific ways to handle their problems and neither way is objectively better than the other, partially due to the fact because both sides learned how to deal with those problems over time.
 
 
MLP is a magical adventure fantasy filled, where DBZ is a martial arts anime.
 
Problems are treated more like puzzles and using different methods and magic in MLP.
 
In DBZ, the heroes usually just beat the shit out of their problems (most of which are caused by Vegeta)
 
Ironically Goku and Twilight have that this trait in common, using friendship to turn enemies into allies, many times which end up helping in vital ways. (Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, even Beerus)
 
But like I said this isn’t about who would win in a fight, the question was could Goku deal with the situations just as good or better than the mane six AS they were presented?
 
Some? Yes, he would’ve slapped Cozy Glow or Starlight Glimmer. Others not so much, and the same more or less applies to MLP to their DBZ situations.

You and I both know DBZ’s power scale is far beyond even the most action oriented children’s show post-1990’s. While MLP:FiM was fantastic, it was still a show meant primarily for little kids funded by a toy company who disliked violence being in (then modern) MLP so much that they outright banned actual combat for the first two major villains of the series.
 
DBZ is basically boxing with aliens and a plot. Fighting is DBZ.
 
Now if you want to talk about fan-canon and supplementary materials regarding MLP’s 4th generation versus Dragon Ball lore, you have more to debate with. Regardless it stands that in the show itself Tirek got the only real fight, and it was basically still won by care-bear-staring.

Well, most encounters MLP villains (and even Dragon Ball Villains) involve some convoluted plot they came up with instead of just offing the heroes as fast they could.
 
However there’s no way Goku would’ve done sh*t to conceptual beings like Discord, Tantubus, Cosmos, and King Sombra, at least not permanently or by himself
