By “the remakes”, do you mean, like, Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld, or Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider? ‘Cause Tomb Raider Anniversary is the only TR game that’s really a remake.The modern trilogy have a totally different continuity from the original six games (I-III, The Last Revelation and Chronicles on PlayStation, and Angel of Darkness on PS2).
Tomb Raider (2013) has Lara crying over having to kill a deer in the beginning, but Tomb Raider (1996) begins with Lara reading a newspaper about how she’d allegedly found (and killed) Big Foot. If you’re a new player just beginning the series, you’d think that headline couldn’t possibly be true, but if you know Lara from the original series, you know that it probably was, in spite of Lara’s denial.

“You don’t even care what I say so why should I? After all, you’re just never gonna be satisfied with my bucking answers so why don’t I just take the treasure here, buck off back to home for some fresh air and we can pretend this never happened. Got that dear?”

The difference is I don’t get paid for this and the item gets put on display so that others get to learn from the past works of those who came before us.
Also I’m pretty sure I can take you.

“You know, that’s actually been a growing debate in the archeological community for decades now.”

“Uh-huh.”

“Of course, the site being currently inhabited changes the equation in a major way. Relevantly, taking any sort of cultural object without explicit permission would count as theft. So, since you don’t seem inclined to do that, would you be willing to show me around, let me take some pictures, or would you prefer that I leave?”

I figure there’s a black market for cursed or magical items in Equestria, and like you said I really like the idea that one of Twilight’s first things as princess was to create a task force to gather these things up and keep them out of the wrong hands, since she’s dealt with so many problems that were basically started by the wrong person getting their hands on the wrong thing. So now there’s ponies who capitalize off that, basically trying to get to these items first to turn around and sell them to the highest bidder, and of course villains who want them for their own purposes. So Twilight inadvertently made the black market for these things much stronger and more lucrative by cracking down on it, since it made the price of these objects skyrocket XD

Then of course you’ve got the Sphinx here, who’s just pissed this young upstart pony broke into her home and is looking to take shit. Granted she IS an archaeologist and is looking to gather these things to study, but imagine how you’d feel if someone broke into your home and took your books like “These should be in a library!” You’d be pissed XD

@Badumsquish
Right, but the Sphinx would probably stop them from being stolen as well. Though following Season 9, I’d imagine that they’re locked away in some kind of museum, where it’d be harder to steal from there than from the Sphinx.

She’s dressed as Lara Croft though, so she’s much closer to graverobber than even she probably cares to admit. I imagine though, removing cursed or powerful artifacts from old ruins and turning them over to Princess Twilight would be a paying job in Equestria: better that they get their hands on things like Grogar’s Bell or the Alicorn Amulet before they fall into the wrong hands :D

Perhaps citing treaties on artifacts and your intentions to follow them would suffice. There seems to be an internationally agreed-upon difference and perhaps Sphinxy was just asleep for to long to have gotten the memo.
