The 2017 movie also had 3D backgrounds but was not describe as CG.
Also was that winx movie a pilot?
Winx Club for example. It’s 2D show but the backgrounds are generated in 3D and the effects like fire, dragons and others are also in 3D. Later seasons were also done in 2D in Toon Boom and the 3D backgrounds, effects were still there.
Winx also had a CGI cinematic movie, fully animated 3D. But the series still kept 2D.
Care to give me an example of a 2d show that was described as CG.
Also equestria girls had a limited theatrical run it’s was a tv movie and also not described as CG.
Also just because a movie got a TV spin off does not mean the movie was a pilot

Well, they did the same with the 2017 movie. They could make a flash movie just like first Equestria Girl which had its theatrical premiere.
Also before the first season there will be one special. So it might as well be a 2D style introduction.
And it’s not the first time that a movie in 3D animation has a 2D series. There are many, if not most, such cases.
Except friendship is magic, pony life and the 2017 movie was not described as CG despite being done on computers but something like Transformers prime and the other 3d transformers show were.
Also the movie is literally the pilot to the show why would it be done in a completely different animations method?
