I'm the comissioner and this is based on my own telescope — that "pill" is the light baffle for the upper cage and it's attached opposite the focuser. Just hard to show the depth in this case.

A reflector. The top part is the light-gathering lens setup, there's a concave mirror in the base, and the eyepiece where the light is focused is visible on the side. The foremost optic bit is a little oddly ovoid, when normally it's just a cylinder, but it's recognizeable.
