I imagine Pear Butter has tried to visit her father in the past, but Grand Pear refused to see her due to his stubbornness. It was when Pear Butter had to leave did Grand Pear regret his actions.

Yeah, he disowned his own daughter all because of a stupid (and might i add petty) feud, and by the time he decides to swallow his pride and return to Ponyville to make amends with Pear Butter he was too late, but making peace with Granny Smith and getting too be part of the Apple siblings lives was the best second chance Grand Pear could’ve hoped for.
