When you get deep enough you can never quite tell which ones are made up or not, but I always feel like I’ve heard whispers of it being true.
Like I said, one possible explanation. To my knowledge, every other sapient creature in Equestria has either hooves or claws, and we only ever see one minotaur and one centaur in the entire run of the series, so their influence in Equestria is probably limited.
