@Wolfblade
First there is digest as in how you digest food, then there is digest as in Reader’s Digest. I assume the number you are thinking of is as in one, two, et cetera. The other number is where the b is silent, and it means more numb. Though that one, admittedly, is less widely used, to say the least.
Maybe an etymology lesson would help you understand.
The word “pumpkin” actually derives from the alternative dimunitive version of the word “pumpion” and “pompone”, which in turn is derived from the Middle French word meaning “melon”.
Pumpkin is not that hard to say. It is not like it is a heteronym. Like wind and wind, minute and minute, Polish and polish, refuse and refuse, lead and lead, August and august, bow and bow, close and close, digest and digest, dove and dove, number and number, present and present, puss and puss, record and record, perfect and perfect, tear and tear, sow and sow… Those are all I can think of…
Yeah I have always heard it termed as “a numbing agent” sort of thing. And Digest is pronounced the same (at least where I live?)

Lily, say ‘manipulate’

Honestly same. lol
I have only heard Digest and Number ever pronounced one way so I am curious what other way you are thinking of? Idle curiosity.
