we’re working on it, but due to the frequent attacks ans spam it’s not an easy task. Even the servers being bigger, when there’s a DDoS ongoing it kind of sucks.
I was looking forward to Rainbooru for that very reason.
However, since Rainbooru doesn’t have forums there’s little interaction with other users, and thus little reason to actually frequent the site compared to the Derpi clones. I like Ponybooru a lot more because you can actually talk to people there, and because there are actually people to talk to.
Rainbooru’s got its own devs, unlike ponybooru that runs on philomena, I thought it was a good idea at fist but it is vastly undocumented and going after someone else’s work is something I hate. Also RB is soon to be hosted on a safer place, somewhere in Bucharest to avoid censorship, and cheaper hosting.

If I were to guess it would be that the drama has driven most normal users away. Artists -
with their heads up their ass-taking either of the DNP pledges obviously wouldn’t browse the website either.Discord is still about as active as I’d ever seen it.
So its not me, people have noticed less uploaded content and less voting. Im seeing stuff that could reach up to 50 faves not even break 10, making me wonder if people have genuinely left. Seeing the other sites with little to no activity makes me wonder where the heck people vanished to. Must be harder on other artists and people who upload here.
I know what you mean. I’ve been losing hours everyday for the last few days combing through the comments on the discussion threads on the recent issues for any new information, checking the rules daily to be sure they haven’t been altered, and checking in briefly on the state of the other booru’s.
And, yeah, I think I get what you’re saying about Derpi. I’m not exactly hearing crickets chirping when I get on the front page or anything, but now that I think on it, it’s been taking less time to catch up on content after I’ve been gone for the night. I haven’t been paying enough attention to comments and posts to say anything one way or the other, though.
A quick peek at the top scoring, and I can at least say with confidence that we’ve still had as few as 900 people come through in the last three days, so that’s something I suppose.
I suppose that could be a thing, I may have to keep an eye on it and see what happens. Its gonna be tough keeping up with everything.
I don’t know if its me or if everyone else has noticed but Derpibooru seems a little more quiet since all this started.
I suspect the new booru’s long term survival may depend a lot on how well Derpi keeps it’s word to not reverse their stance on censorship again. I’ve heard some people suggest that we need more than one booru, but I’m not so sure. Still, after browsing for a bit on Ponibooru, I started to get a better sense of just how much content Derpi has been omitting over the years, and it kind of got to me. I might not like most of that content, but I dislike things being removed without my knowledge. Maybe there is room for at least one more MLP image hosting site.
As for the lack of users and engagement, that’s not a surprise. It’s still very early days, the site still needs work and the word hasn’t had a chance to get out, and a lot of what’s been uploaded is old art so I don’t think there’s been much need for people to comment on any of it. I’ve seen some livelier comment sections on the newer work, particularly stuff that’s made it to the top scoring.
so basically, they are both Derpibooru if it was split into two?
I have checked them both out to see what they are like (and to see if any of my work was uploaded there). They both look ok but they seem so barren, yes there is art but nobody is using them (no voting or commenting).
Its going to be a pain if I need accounts spanning over all these sites just to show off my own art, also things seem to be going quiet here too.

To my understanding, Rainbooru allows everything. I’m not so sure how sound the site’s construction is, but it’s still early days and it might be worth checking back on occasionally.
Ponybooru is kind of like Derpibooru a few years ago. A lot more is allowed, but it’s less “anything goes” the way Rainbooru is. It’s also constructed on Philomena, the same code as Derpibooru, so it should be very familiar, though it too is in beta at the moment and a lot of stuff still needs to be implemented. If you’re curious maybe pop over and read the site’s rules to get a better idea of what they are about.
There’s also Twibooru, but that one looks like it needs the most work out of all of them right now. It looks nice, but that’s all it has for now.
They are both edgier
So whats the difference between them and Derpibooru exactly?
