We did not. Larson has said he wanted them to be a race (he wrote the episode) but acknowledged it was up to the show staff to determine if it was just a magical effect/costume or if they were genuine.
We saw Flutterbat. They could just be a costume to look like what they know about vampire ponies. Fluttershy dressed up as such once even.
But I think we all want to believe.
