And his plan most likely damaged the Royal Sisters’ reputations too.
I am sure Cadance’s got messed up badly due to the Sombra mess, the Crystal Ponies probably traumatized and most likely Flurry Heart gets traumatized too.

Helping them escape is not enough to make up for his plan.
His plan pretty much is something only bad guys would do in form of using others as disposable pawns there.
Along with not realizing so much damage will be done by his plan.

All Discord did was prevented the mess from getting worse. Its not enough.
And the only “punishment” is only just the result of his plan backfiring on him instead of him facing actual repercussions from the heroes for pulling this.

Actually discord did get punishment he got dragged around on a chain

Temporarily, by the villains he intended to use as pawns and dispose of, not permanently, by the heroes who should realise how vile his actions were and give him the same punishment they gave to his unwilling co-conspirators.
and was only forgiven when he risked his life to get starlight free so she could free the other prisoners even stayed behind without any powers to give time for the mane 5 and spike to escape so they could save eq.

Even if his plan weren’t completely nonsensical, he would be saving himself as much as everyone else. Further, it does nothing to atone for forcing the villains to work for him, fully intending to have them punished for his crime.
Discord is very flawed but his heart was only in the right place and he simply didn’t think things through.

Discord forced four villains to work for him, empowered them to wreak havoc with the intent of sicking them on Equestria and let them take the fall for a crime he masterminded. That is not, nor will it ever be, the right place.

Really, Luna retiring should have cause some issues that need to be addressed.
I am really hoping the season 10 comics would fix this and does something for Luna to make up for this bs.
secury

@nightshroud96
I wouldn’t mind for Luna to shine more. Also, retirement for her doesn’t make much sense since she was barely ruler in comparison with Celestia.

Well, at least I can draw Chrysalis accepting Starlight hoof to please myself.

I feel like while Discord tried to boost Twilight’s confidence, deep down it ends up destroying what confidence Luna and Celestia had left.
On their very last day as rulers, they just fall flat on their faces again.
It really hurts more for Luna’s case since she lost a 1000 years of ruling, so her track record looks worse compared to Celestia’s..
Its bad enough Luna was retiring, her ending her rule on a pretty bad note just made it worse..

@secury
All valid I say.
Though for Twilight and Spike’s designs, I am meh I think.
Though honestly Twilight’s Celestia-like form raised a lot of questions about alicorns, such as pertaining to Luna.
As for Spike, it could use a few tweaks honestly.

I felt like the finale gave the Royal Sisters a pretty crappy sendoff.
Aside from the petrification controversy, the sisters just fell flat on their faces badly again. On their freaking last days as rulers. Ultimately sidelined again and weren’t even included in the final rainbow laser despite they wielded the Elements before and their cutie marks were on the damn Tree of Harmony.
It really hurts more for Luna’s case, heck it felt like she got wasted big time..
She could have gotten something to make things come full circle. She started the show off with her story and being the first antagonist(Nightmare Moon), she could have gotten something here. Like she started the show as a villain but ends the show as a big hero(no, distracting the trio and turning the powerless trio to stone doesn’t freaking count for this)

@nightshroud96
Also, this whole ‘boost Twilight confidence’ theme was really overused by that point.

But to give some examples I didn’t have a problem, this whole Grogars is a Discord in disguise twist was fine by me, the trio was far more entertaining anyway.
secury

@nightshroud96
The petrification of Chrysalis is the biggest issue for me and the others flaw are kinda minor in comparison, but just to list some.

Twilight being fine with petrification.

The way trio was defeated, no one made a new friend, no show of mercy, pity (Pony of Shadow) or forgiveness (like Twilight forgive Discord in S4), the heroes just gang up upon them. It kinda felt like the message was that one with a bigger army wins the day.

Discord gets zero punishment, just a few angry looks.

That big army out of nowhere looked really cool, but it was a textbook ass pull. The fights were kinda cool, though.

Few minor problems with pacing (characters can suddenly jump across the country in a few minutes)

Also, that new Twilight and Spike design in Last Problem didn’t land with me at all, I think it’s just ugly.

@nightshroud96
Also from the storytelling view, it wasn’t really great. I liked the ‘dysfunctional family’ dynamics the Chrysalis had with Cozy and Tirek and this build from Frenemies went kinda nowhere.

@secury
Yeah..
Discord really caused things to be iffy.
Such as causing the Royal Sisters to get a pretty crappy sendoff, what happened to Spike in the season 9 premiere, this stuff that happened to Chrysalis, etc. It left me feeling pretty bitter inside..
secury

@nightshroud96
I meant it like a joke. My impression was writers made Chrysalis more bloodthirsty than before to have a big scary vicious villain for heroes to fight :)

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see her reform (though not necessarily metamorphose to keep her cool look). Her final fate left a sour taste in my mouth. Basically anything would be better than this.

Also, all ponies cheering with a big smile on their faces… that kinda felt disturbing too.

@secury
So they screwed her over to make things look epic?

Chrysalis is a great villain but I rather her reform than suffering a terrible fate. Especially if said fate is ultimately due a certain chaos spirit..
secury

@BlackT0rnado
I more or less agree with you. The S9 had a really solid start. I think this whole idea bringing villains together hinting that even villains can have friends was great. It was something new and fresh and had an interesting angle of how you could reform some characters. Also great material for a comedy as a bonus.

I enjoyed the ‘dysfunctional family’ dynamic the trio had, so I personally was disappointed that it was kinda dropped in the finale in favor making villains less sympathetic.

Even with Grogar as Discord in disguise, it could work. When the trio was depowered somepony could point out: “Hey they were able to work together, so maybe there is a still small hope for them?”

Well, maybe there will get here in season 10 comics.

And when grogar was real and get the bell they could defeat him together with help of the other equestrians. The season had a good start but a shitty ending in my opinion. It’s still a shame for the meaning of friendship and all the lessons back for 9 years.
Sometimes i wished they let Lauren write the last episodes…

@OtherFritz
I draw for the fun and because I thought it could look nice.

But I agree with you, it was better that she fled. If Chrysalis was reformed at that moment it would feel cheap, forced, and really unsatisfying. Her final redemption would feel sweeter with this build-up.

Shame it was kinda wasted in the finale. I was hoping that Chrysalis would through “socializing” with Tirek and Cozy realize that her bond with them matters for her more than revenge and that would push her into finally reforming.

Honestly, it’s really not unthinkable. She was considering it. It was written all over her face. It’s odd, looking back at this moment and thinking that it was her only real chance to reform. At the time, it was probably better that she fled. It just wasn’t the right moment, I think. To reform her then would’ve seemed forced, but to have her seriously consider and refuse could’ve easily been a marvellous piece of build-up for when she finally is redeemed, which makes it all the more tragic that they decided to waste it.
