is simply incorrect. When they were grilling AJ back in Dodge Junction, Rainbow was all but salivating at the idea of meeting “Wild Bull Hickok” along with “Calamity Mane”. Does the fromer sound like a girl to you? Not to mention after “Sonic Rainboom” she flew off with two males.

Bullshit. Gilda was the only thing that started it in Season 1. The rest because fans wanted it that way. They took the stereotype to heart.
 
It was Season 2 when they started to follow the stereotype because the fandom wanted it that way. There was no “from the start”.

There is more to RD then being a tomboy. That doesn’t mean she is not a lesbian either, and it would be rude to assume.
 
As 2nd background pony said, the creators from the very beginning knew she was attracted more to girls then guys. That does not make her ‘the gay character’ it just her simple orientation she has shown no signs to the latter.
 
Is she even aware she is gay? Unlikely. However, she has no interest in the opposite sex, and she is surrounded by lesbian stereotypes. Gilda was a straight up (not the insult) lesbian dyke, the 2nd established gay character in MLP (can’t forget Steven the gay Sea Serpent), and her entire conflict revolved around wanting Dash to herself. Spitfire, another obvious lesbian bait, and nigh brainless Soarin(no offense to people who like Soarin) was to further satirize this duality of uninteresting male ships for Dash, and interesting female ships for Dash. Dash is not Rarity.
 
Between close emotional bonds and even off-screen kisses on the lips, RD has shown a BOTH innocent and lesbian attachment to Applejack, and Pinkie Pie has shown BOTH an innocent and nigh lesbian attachment to Rainbow Dash. I could go further, but those are just some big examples the creators are really BIG on, to the point of being open about it as Background Pony pointed out. The creators are very clever and love skirting the edge and knowing they are doing it.

I hope soarin comes back, he seemed so likeable in season 1. Oh and i feel the whole rd being a lesbian was due to the fact she had a rainbow mane. At least that’s how i saw it due to this report from somewhere saying she was a bad example to girs by being a tomboyish lesbian, silly really not all tomboys are lesbian.

I think the writers accepted her being “lesbian” even though they don’t admit it. In fact, they have a PinkieDash valentine’s shirt on WeLoveFine and McCarthy is wearing it to a con.

I’m male too and I’ve loved this ship since the Gala episode and him dancing at the Canterlot Wedding. Soarin seems like a nice guy who deserves a girl like RD.

Interestingly enough she was admiring Soarin in season 1 than in other seasons. Her daydream of impressing the Wonderbolts, she shook Soarin’s hoof first. She hung out with him (and a clone) in Sonic Rainboom and the poster of the Wonderbolts were basically male in the image of Soarin. So the entire time she was pretty much admiring Soarin in season 1. He’s faded away since than though. This makes me sad. I really liked the guy. I think they’ve written him out. :(

I like to picture Rainbow Dash as straight simply because everyone says she’s gay. Not that I would have a problem with her being gay, I just feel it’s unfair to say she’s gay just because she has a short mane and is athletic.
