I’m sure the Changelings she helped produce grew up to be efficient soldiers back when she was still the ruler of the hive. But Cadance and Shining Armor would definitely prefer quality over quantity if Chrysalis is gonna live with them.

I like both of your takes on option three. For the sitcom trope, if Chrysalis is the slacker best friend, would this make Tirek and Cozy Glow her deadweight buddies?

Well, individual changelings are pretty pathetic, but you could just throw wave after wave of them at Flurry until she’s too exhausted to go on.
I mean, sure, hundreds of them are going to end up vaporized before Flurry is drowned under a tide of changeling corpses, but you can always breed more later.
Ah, the Zapp Brannigan approach. A controversial tactic, but effective… assuming you have the numbers to expend, of course.
 
Still, I wouldn’t rule out her victory entirely. There’s always some contrivance that comes through for the hero. I mean she is a princess of the Crystal Empire. Maybe she can draw on the power of that artifact that’s powered by the love of the citizens when she needs to, or something.

You know what, if people can make a older Flurry Heart into a likable, enjoyable, interesting character, with believable personality flaws and etc, then she should get her own series.  
Kinda use her as a plot device to get a continuation of MLP FiM post season 9.

Okay, that raises a question: Who would win in a fight–Flurry Heart, or a horde of changelings?
Well, Flurry has the giant magic laser beam.  
 
A scream loud enough to manifest as shock waves.  
 
Teleportation.  
 
The ability to make force fields.  
 
And she bites.  
 
Add that on top of the usual unicorn magical abilities, and I think she’d more than hold her own against a horde of changelings.
 
 
… OR, being a baby, she’d give the changeling horde unconditional love as only a small child can, and in doing so they’d switch sides and declare allegiance to her instead, and she’d have an entire army at her beck and call.

Option three kinda reminds me a anime trope where the protagonist faces off with who’s at first a equal match, but suddenly is out classed by the hero becoming stronger.
That’s an interesting way to look at it. I had in mind more like the sitcom trope of the slacker best friend or the kid who drops out of school and moves back home… the character that spends 12 hours a day on the married couple’s couch, watching TV, complaining, thinking up get rich quick schemes, and so on. All it really needs is a scene where they’re all at the dinner table doing the “so how’s the job search going?” bit.
