Here we go!

Double Diamond

Without a doubt, Double Diamond was one of the most adventurous foals his parents had ever met. Even from a very young age, Doubles wanted nothing more than to explore the world and have fun. His father tended to be more of a worry-wart and always seemed to be running around trying to catch his son if he ever fell, but Double’s mother loved joining her little colt in his many mishaps and silly misadventures.

Double Diamond received his cutie mark earlier than most and his mother attributed it to the fact that her son always seemed to know what he wanted, even as a baby. During an outing with his mother, the two decided to try out snow tubing and skiing. His mom fell on her face repeatedly into the snow, but all the while enjoying herself. Doubles, on the other hand, seemed to live for the speed and wind in his mane (even if he was frozen solid by the end of the day). Double Diamond’s mother immediately recognized the knack he had for the activity and the two went skiing almost every weekend. After some time working with his family, Doubles got his cutie mark by skiing down a particularly steep hill with his excited mother and (only slightly) terrified father. His cutie mark represents not only his fun and care-free surfer vibe, but also his talent in winter sports and his close connection to his family (hence the three flowers, one for him and two for his parents).

By the time Double Diamond had finished his schooling, he wanted nothing more than to travel all over Equestria and check off his list of places to ski around the nation. His parents supported his need to explore and he promised to write to them every chance he got. With only a small cart of supplies and a few bags, Doubles started his journey from Northern Equestria and made his way down the map.

Doubles kept to his word and wrote his parents whenever he stopped into a town. Sometimes he would take photos of himself at a landmark and add it with his letters, or send small knick knacks he would find wherever he visited. He would let his parents know how long he was staying in a certain area so they could write him letters of their own, but most of the time he didn’t stay in one location for too long.

After about a year of traveling Equestria, Double Diamond stumbled along Starlight’s Village while making his way through the Crystal Mountains. Happy to have found a place to stay so close to the snowy peaks, Doubles quickly rented a room and was immediately introduced to Starlight Glimmer. With her town growing in size, but still small, it was obvious when a visitor came to the village. She invited him to dinner at her house (which he gladly accepted) and without any reservations, Doubles told her all about his family and plans. Starlight could barely contain her disinterest, but with a silver tongue, convinced him to stay in her town a little while longer.

Although Double Diamond proved to be a challenge in converting to an equal of her village, Starlight slowly chipped away at his confidence and started bringing his fears to light. What if his traveling was affecting his relationship with his parents? What if they were growing apart? Starlight assured him that this was all because of his cutie mark. If he was just like the others in his town, he would be happy and have no need to leave his family ever again. She told him that once his cutie mark was removed, he would feel no need to roam ever again and he would be more than happy with his mother and father, without yearning to go again. Reluctantly he agreed, not knowing that the moment his cutie mark was taken would be the last moment he would ever think of how badly he wanted to go home.

After a few months had passed, it was clear that Double Diamond had become one of Starlight’s closest confidants and her best ally. She convinced him to write a note to his family telling them not to worry while he traveled a bit longer, but was vague when telling them where he was. In the town, Doubles was more than happy to be Starlight’s eyes when she was unable to be around and was the first to let her know when the Mane 6 entered the village. He stayed fiercely loyal to her until the proof was too much to bear, and he shattered the vault containing everyone’s cutie marks.

It had been almost two years since Double Diamond had written to his parents and once he was himself again, he made sure to tell them everything in a very long letter. He told them where he could reach him, but asked that he have a bit more time to adjust to a normal life again. They wrote him back immediately, so relieved to have finally heard back from their son, and asked him to let them know the moment he was ready for them to visit him in the village.

Those who had been trapped in the village reacted differently to normal life. Double Diamond did anything to keep himself busy, whether it be skiing near the town or writing more letters that he would probably never send. Others fell into a deep depression, having lost so much time that they felt slipped through their hooves. Others immediately left the village, never wanting to see or remember anything from their time trapped.

When those left in the village decided to throw the Sunset Festival for the first time, Double Diamond knew it was time to invite his parents to come and visit. They arrived a few days before the festival and embraced their son for what seemed like hours (but only minutes for them). They cried and laughed, and then cried more. By the end of their visit, Double Diamond told his parents that he would be staying in the village a little longer, wanting to help the family he had developed before he returned home.

Night Glider

Born the runt of a pair of identical twins, Night Glider was used to being babied by their mother. Having lost their father shortly after their birth, their mom (Silver Breeze) clung to her newborn twins just as much as they clung to her. Silver Breeze constantly worried over her children, believing the smallest scratch or the tiniest cold could lead to something much worse. Once the twins were old enough to think for themselves, they started getting fussier about their mother’s constant worrying. But, having been spoken to on how their father passed, knew Silver was coming from a place of fear and love. They learned how to pick up on their mom’s moods very quickly, and could sense whenever she needed a snuggle.

Silver Breeze always told her two daughters that they took care of her just as much as she took care of them. They grew up in a small house, trying to help each other out whenever possible, whether it be assisting with dinner, cleaning up toys, or giving support on days when one another were too sad to get up in the morning. Even though Night Glider and her sister had their own little bedroom, they regularly would crawl into bed with their mother sometime in the middle of the night or early in the morning.

Being a twin, everyone Night Glider’s age expected her and her sister to enjoy the same things and have the same way of thinking. Night Glider was more than happy to let them know that this was not the case. While she tended to be more of a logical thinker (even with a rather prominent temper), her sister Winter Wind was led by her emotions and wasn’t always the most clear-headed. The two also enjoyed their own things and appreciated some time apart when it came to hobbies. It gave a chance for the two to clear their head and after a day of school and work, tell their mom about the fun that they each had.

When it came time for cutie marks to start appearing, Night Glider was overjoyed when she got hers. Because sometimes her mother could be overbearing with her constant concern for the twins’ welfare, Glider felt like she had to find some time where she could just be a bit more free. After her mother and sister would fall asleep, Night Glider would wander out to their small backyard garden and stare up at the night sky. It didn’t take long for her to recognize little things and she started getting books from the library on astronomy and the solar system, wanting to know more about it all. She spent almost every night outside, sometimes falling asleep in the garden during the summer (which might have scared Silver Breeze once or twice). One night, when she wanted to show her family a lunar eclipse that was expected to happen, she couldn’t help but excitedly chatter about the amazing things she had discovered while studying. The three took a small flight right before the eclipse and Night Glider was sure to point out everything she could, like constellations and planets. As the lunar eclipse started, Night Glider and her family realized that her cutie mark was forming, and she couldn’t have been happier.

As Night Glider grew up, she realized how much more she still had yet to learn about astronomy and space. She told her mom how badly she wanted to pursue a higher form of education, even though the family wasn’t very financially stable. Night Glider started grabbing any work she could, whether it be odd jobs or part-time work after her classes. Knowing how much her daughter wanted to excel at what she loved, Silver Breeze began saving up bits here and there.

After working hard to save up and applying to multiple academies and colleges, Night Glider was accepted to a school in Manehattan. There were very clear rules for her, like having to budget her money very carefully and taking as many scholarships as possible. Silver Breeze gave her daughter all the bits she had saved up for her schooling and sent her on her way, trying to hold back the tears as she watched her daughter hop on a train to the city.

When Night Glider arrived in Manehattan, she had already located a cheap place to stay right outside of the city. She didn’t have many possessions that came with her, so her room was a bit sparse. Fortunately, Glider was able to rent a room in a house with two other mares named Sugar Belle and Critter Crawl. They seemed odd, but Night Glider shook it off, too excited at the idea of starting her first day of school in Manehattan.

The first school year seemed to go very well for Glider. She held good grades in all her classes and caught the attention of a few teachers, even becoming a teacher’s aid during the last term of her first year. Most nights, Night Glider wasn’t even at the house she shared in Starlight’s village and was studying in the library or exploring outside the town, where she happened upon a cave filled with cutie marks. Unfortunately, Starlight was there to catch Night Glider snooping and took her cutie mark before she could run or confront her. No one from the Manehattan college saw Night Glider the following fall and assumed she had decided to go somewhere else or return home.

Knowing why Night Glider was at the village in the first place, Starlight had Glider write a letter to her family letting them know that she was going to take some time off of college to study independently and save up money before returning to school. Her mother immediately bought it, knowing how much going to a college could drain a bank account. She told her daughter to keep her updated and told her to visit sometime, but that ended up never happening.

Once Night Glider was back to normal, she decided to continue her schooling after such a long break. She still stayed in the village, with monetary issues still being a prominent part of her life, and worked her butt off to pay for her classes again. When ponies started leaving the village to live elsewhere, Night Glider moved in with other ponies, like Party Favor and a mare named Blackberry Patch. Between working to save up for college and attending her classes, Night Glider felt burnt out and constantly stressed, but she was content knowing that she was finally back to her old self.

And here’s a peek into their relationship:

While getting back to their normal lives after freeing their cutie marks, both Double Diamond and Night Glider did their best to do anything but think about the past. Whenever it became too much, Glider, Doubles, Party Favor, and Sugar Belle would get together and have a night of drinking and eating and idle chatter about the past. Once Sugar Belle moved away and Party Favor decided to work all over Equestria, only Night Glider and Double Diamond were left to comfort each other. Anda desperate need for comfort and forgetting the past started a domino effect of bad decisions.

Night Glider and Double Diamond, after awhile, decided to keep each other company in a rather intimate manner. Their affair was fairly short and by no means a long-term solution, but the two embraced the chance to be filled with an emotion other than fear or sadness or anger. The two used each other and they knew it, but couldn’t seem to pull themselves away from one another before crashing back together in a need for a distraction. However, those distractions ended up leading to a rather large problem.

After a few months of their rather “friends-with-benefits” behavior, Night Glider was constantly feeling ill and having to skip class because of it. While she knew this was always a possibility, her mind always pushed it away and told her “well it won’t happen to me”. For someone who was so logical, she felt like a complete idiot for ignoring her better judgment.

Night Glider debated heavily on whether or not to tell Double Diamond once she learned she was, in fact, pregnant. After all, would it really affect him either way? It’s not like the two were in a real relationship or were looking for anything serious. Double Diamond was surprised when she told him, having the same kind of mentality that Glider previously had. He awkwardly asked her what she wanted to do, not interested in being tied down by a kid or a relationship right now. When Night Glider told Doubles that she was in no way interested in raising a child, he was more relieved than he could say. The two talked for the majority of the night, discussing options and what they wanted to do in light of the situation.

In the end, Night Glider decided to carry the baby to term and then put them up for adoption. She wasn’t interested in the slightest in having a child of her own and wanted to give the foal their best chance at a life. Doubles let Glider know that he was there if she wanted him around and while she occasionally asked for help, Glider did most things on her own when it came to her pregnancy. Something told her that Double Diamond was happier in that regard. Glider continued going to classes, refusing to let the pregnancy get in the way of her education, especially since she felt she had already wasted so much time.

Night Glider gave birth to the baby without Double Diamond in the room, instead supported by her mother and sister. They completely supported her decision and while Silver Breeze thought of lecturing her daughter about stuff like this, the look on her daughter’s face said enough for her to be quiet and just be there for her. Once the baby was born, Night Glider held her for a few minutes and spoke to the baby softly, telling them that they would find an amazing family that would give them all the love they deserved, it just wasn’t with her. Then she gave the baby to the nurses and felt a weight lift from her, knowing she gave the little foal her best shot at a good life.

After the pregnancy Night Glider and Double Diamond barely spoke, much less were physical with one another. Neither one seemed bothered by leaving each other alone and grew apart rather quickly, now having new memories they would rather forget.
