The ‘‘if you act before the enemy in the first round of the battle, AFTER the Surprise Round, they are flat-footed’’ rule I borrowed from the “Order Of The Stick” D&D webcomic, one of its earlier strips. No idea if it is actually a rule in the PHB (don’t wanna look it up in the moment), but I took it from OOTS.
I only wrote the stats for the characters, simulated their decisions in battle, rolled real dice, and wrote down the result of the battle.
I didn’t throw the dice super-hard like AJ did there in the end.

Yup, but I was talking about being flat-footed after the Surprise Round, during the first proper round of the battle.
