I don’t think the issue is that Big Mac got with someone else. It’s the stupid way that he got with the other mare.
SugarMac literally came out of nowhere to just replace the obvious basic chemistry that was established between Big Mac and Marble. And all because they may be related by a 4th or 5th great grandparent.
It was simply just dumb.

Yeah, it’s all rather silly.
They trivialized it with a throwaway line that it didn’t count because it was a love potion. That might have worked if not for all the little hints that had been made post love potion to suggest that there was indeed something going on with Big Mac and Cheerilee.

They be like: “They might be related by maybe 3rd great grandparents? Incest!!”
And did they mentioned that Cheerilee and Big Mac had dated in the past, but it was still something.

They never picked up on the relatives thing at all. It was just relegated to yet another pointless footnote in the series.
Not only was the SugarMac thing forced, it flies in the face of the established Cheerimac relationship.
That was pretty dumb.
The reason behind them choosing not to do MarbleMac that is.
The Apples and Pies were probably related by three times great grandparents at best.
SugarMac just feels forced.

Any other Big Mac ship is better than sugarmac.
And that’s mainly because sugarmac literally came out of nowhere with nothing building it up.
I mean, at least him being interested in Fluttershy or Cheerilee would make more sense due to them actually having interactions with them.
