After seeing it, gatta say I can’t argue with that.
Me too… Plus, honestly “Gamer/geeky culture” has become more accepted, and mainstream nowadays. I saw a late-night talk show host talk gaming with his guest before.
A man in his 40s, or 50s complimented my Super Mario T-shirt, and said he loved playing that game when he was young.
(Considering SMB & the original NES came out in America in 1985, that means he could’ve been a teenager, or in his 20s when it first came out.)

It seems more like something similar to the Streisand Effect to me (which is something that anyone of any political affiliation can be guilty of doing). If swarms of people try their best to not get someone invested in something, reverse psychology is going to start coming in strong and people will get curious about what the big fuss is all about.
That’s actually why they were demonizing, and bashing it actually… (Even Jared Leto was upset about the movie, and allegedly tried to somehow keep it from coming out, because he wants to be the only modern movie Joker.)
Though, that might’ve backfired, and got more people wanting to see it. The movie just hit over a billion $$$ worldwide now. It’s actually kinda cathartic to see that with all the unfair backlash, accusations, and such it got.

If it helps, I went in fearing the absolute worst, but then was gifted with what is easily one of the best films of the year for me (I watch a LOT of movies, so that’s saying something). It is NOT an SJW movie at all. The first trailer is the most accurate one to the film’s tone, theme, and subject matter, so trust me, it’s VERY good.
i mean, considering what kind of humor you see on the internet these days, it really is no surprise that people would laugh at things like it. it’s not funny, but it’s not surprising.

i’ve had the fortune to only see one trailer of joker, i just read mostly flavour text and some plot points otherwise. i tend to be uncertain about films that’re no-barreds-held blunt with its message, considering that kind of movie is common these days imo. but i also give the film the benefit of the doubt, cause i also heard a lot of praise from it. plus the batman series is always nice to check on once in a while.
and believe me, it’s my job to avoid SJWs, and especially twitterati like the plague. lol

Being perfectly honest, the violence is a bit too much and detracts from the point of the movie, but it’s only because it’s rather incidental to it. In actuality, it’s arguably the most sophisticated unreliable narrator film that mainstream has had in a looooong time. It’s well worth it.
Honestly, these days, you should do your best to avoid trailers and other promotional material. They try to sell a different movie most of the time, what with studios’ need to make ever more “epic” advertising. I’d go as far as saying promo material harms the actual film.
In the same vein, you should disregard everything that Twitterati, SJWs and their ilk might say about this, because, bizarrely, they’re going absolutely apeshit because this thing hasn’t played into their shitty memes. Well, you should disregard what they say about anything, actually, but you don’t need me to remind you of that, right?

ahhh, that’s good to hear. i’ve been on the fence on whether to watch it or not, but i might consider seeing it sometime soon.
I would definitely say it’s worth it. It’s a very disturbing but very well-made and fantastically acted character study film, and it takes a really gloves-off approach to exploring mental illness and how it affects people. I honestly think this movie would stand on its own even if you removed all references to the Batman mythos.
