LoL, Yes, after toilet paper was invented, before that it was use whatever including the common book, newspaper etc
Its not that toilet paper came with newspapers/books/comics/etc, its that the paper newspapers used was broke down easily (ie. rotted fast). Since old newspapers were commonly read on the toilet and useless after reading, the idea was “I either use my hands, buy super expensive toilet paper or use this newspaper which I was going to throw in the garbage anyway.”
It’s not weird, that’s exactly what I expected too
Because older styles of toilet paper actually came in newspaper, books, comics, cartoons, that old joke about using someone’s work as toilet paper is true people actually did that and it’s very rare to find them now because of it…in my opinion they were a lot better than modern toilet paper,so wonderfully soft yet strong almost like fabric LoL

I think it’s supposed to be foolscap, like recycled notes/paper.
