I’ve actually recall hearing some version of this first in right wing circles all the way back in 2018, hit the popular mainstream do to climate activism, now see it for a variety of contexts from political to joking. Yeah, but the difference is that, nowadays is easy to record video, take pictures and share it to social media for the world to see. So some of those older folks like to think that “this kids is so stupid, back in my day, bla bla”. Despite that their generation also have cringe teenagers back in their days.
