I am pretty sure Tirek realised that trying to take the Princess’s magic would have caused a fight between them, especially after Cozy lay claim to it.
 
Honestly he was powerful enough already considering he was dominating their whole army at the end, and had two powerful allies backing him up. Encouraging the other two to turn on him was a high price to pay for a power up he didn’t really need.

Whatever happened, Twilight’s magic is just as strong enough to hurt him, Chrysalis and Cozy even with that stupid bell.

Mane Five + Spike + Celestia + Luna + Cadance + Shinning Armor + large number of Pegasis (including Wonderbots) + large number of Earth Ponies + larger number of Unicorns = powerful enough to absorb Discord’s magic
 
In Season 9 he only had a power boost from the bell and the magic from the pillars. I’m not sure if he would’ve been able to take the chaos magic from the bell even if he had drained the Mane Five, Spike and Starlight.

I found it still strange. I mean if he absorb the Mane 5 and Spike again, he would go into his 4 Form again and then he could handle the Magic of Discord. Maybe the writers have forget that or Discords Plan about becoming friends/allies somewhat worked and Tirek didn’t wanted to backstab then. But given the Fact that Tirek seemed like the most competent of the three (Destroy the Wendigos before they become a real threat, hunting Twilight down to prevent something like what happend to them in the finale or his own defeat), its strange.

Tirek wasn’t as powerful here as he was when Twilight fought him in Twilight’s Kingdom. He didn’t suck up quite as much magic.

Season 4: Twilight can’t even hurt him with all the princesses magic fused.
 
Season 9: Twilight made Tirek fell down with a blast using only her own magic.

My only guess is that Cozy and Chrysalis forbid him from doing it because they didn’t want him to become much more powerful than them and overthrow them. The only times we see him absorbing magic in this season is when Chrysalis and Cozy aren’t around or he gives it back right after.

Really makes you wonder why he didn’t suck up more ponies’ magic. He could have sucked up all the Mane 6’s magic when they captured them, for that matter.

If you go by Tirek’s different appearances in Twilight’s Kingdom, the one in this episode is his “Stage 4” form, the form he had before he absorbed the Mane Six (minus Twilight, plus Spike)’s magic.
 
Tirek was Stage 5 when he fought Twilight last time.
