They won’t when New Game Plus begins. Other upgrades that aren’t related to story progression will be available for them though.

I have to wonder if the CMC would still have their cutie marks and if Spike would still have his wings in this setup. Though maybe those are story progression related upgrades so maybe, maybe not.

XD Well, when Twilight is reading her book about the Elements of Harmony in the pilot, she will then realize she’s powerful as hell for some reason, and that she’s carrying a lot of health items and powerful equipment. Of course certain abilities of hers will be locked out until she re-meets her friends and gets her wings. Still, she’s gonna curbstomp Nightmare Moon!  
Aside from the sudden increase of strength she gained from later in her life, her memories are still as they were back when she was reading that book. But there might be some differences with how things might turn out. Its sort of like how the player can reset their adventure in Undertale but without feeling deja vu.

One of the longest fanfics in the fandom is kind of like that.
 
Another thing similar to this idea are “peggy sue” fanfics. Which are the ones where they mental time travel back to the start to change the course of events. A lot of times these are used in series to save characters that died. I like these.

Your comment made me think. I have to wonder what shows would be like with a New Game Plus mode, how things would be different with knowledge/abilities from later episodes/seasons.

A lot of times a character’s voice will change from the early episodes. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. An example of the latter is Bloo from Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends. His voice in later episodes is horrible compared to how it started (but that’s nothing next to what they did to his personality).

Right after the finale, I watched the first episodes again. It’s a tradition of mine. I have to say…boy does Applejack sound different.

Because I liked the other seven seasons, obviously.

My friend and I have been planning on marathoning some of our favorite episodes together with cider and muffins now that the show over.
 
Er… we aren’t planning on watching anything from the last two seasons, though considering Sparkle Seven isn’t out of consideration just yet and I’ll at least be considering The Parent Map.
