Wrongo, a LOT of people are familiar with Q. The fact that Discord is based on Q is extremely mainstream MLP fandom knowledge. The point is that to the fandom, Discord is often a far dumber, badly written version of Q.
Did giving roses to Celestia suddenly make every pony forget be betrayed them all to Tirek? Of course not.
Was any part of his most recent plan well thought out? Of course not, it wasn’t even the tiniest bit foolproof.
Q was always a charming asshat, but he was never deluded into thinking that any horrible thing he did was justified enough to be forgiven. Understood maybe, tolerated over time slightly, but never forgiven. And there was almost always a method to Q’s madness, Q actually does think things through, while when Discord tries to be Q-esque, he often falls flat when trying to contemplate both the moral and logical elements to his schemes.
The thing is, Discord is still technically smarter and wiser then most of the main characters. That’s how Q was, that’s how Discord is, technically. But the difference lies in the DELIVERY. Unlike MLP:FiM, Star Trek could actually accept learning a lesson from a morally ambiguous source. From Q in TNG, and often Garak in DS9. Twilight is…way too much of a goody two-shoes for the writers to allow her to learn lessons via morally ambiguous lessons or anything Celestia wouldn’t ageee with, so as a result, Discord’s schemes almost always have moral or logical lapses that undermine the wisdom he tries to impart.
Sometimes it’s just enough that he doesn’t want to burn bridges with Fluttershy so he holds back, other times its ill conceived plans like this one.
Q could often be arrogant to the point of recieving some karmic retribution, but that was because he enjoyed witty repartee, not because his plans lacked basic reasoning like some of Discord’s.
Edited
Agreed. I get the feeling a lot of people aren’t that familiar with Q. Same exact thing happens when he’s “friendly”, and Discord is literally Q. A manipulator tries to help in the only way he knows how, and it doesn’t work out that well.
the first one
Which scans better?

Nuff said.
Well, yes and no.
In one universe Thomas Wayne survives, becoming Batman.
But Booster’s intervention saves them but stops Batman from being created, and that means bad things for the world at large. Until they die much later right in front of him again. By Booster’s hand.
It’s a very horrible wedding present, all in all.
….Wait, hasn’t it been established that saving them either results in Bruce’s death or the creation of Batman?
Well, for Batman’s birthday, he time traveled to prevent the death of Bruce’s parents, so… that happen.
Now Discord really needs to have the “judgement of the spirit of orden” rejected idea to redeem him…
Let ANYONE else write ANY of the characters he’s been writing.
