It’s still pretty remarkable that they use the same characters, though. Many times the same characters in both languages get different meanings, or even different designs.
Because the Japanese term was derived from Chinese, like “ erect “ was derived from Latin.
Trivia: The Chinese word for that action uses exactly the same characters.
Sounds like bukkake to me
Perhaps the word “勃起” (bokki, Japanese for ”erection”) is an allusion to that definition. ;)
