Just because you haven’t seen it, it does not mean it doesn’t happen. I got blocked because I did not agree with a YouTube brony about a liberal position. I wasn’t even being hateful.

Conservative bronies, because gender roles are for communists.

Also, good job with not using caricatures. I didn’t think that was possible for a political cartoon.

Most political issues have no connection to the show or the fandom, and if people are excluding you because of such beliefs, that’s not cool. But social conservatism (and Social Justice Warrior-ing) set themselves apart by shitting on people for liking harmless, reasonable things. If you shit on people for liking sex or the same sex or defying gender roles or Derpy, expect them to think you’re an asshole. They’re right.

The Problem is assuming an absolute of “COnservative” or “Liberal”.

Ponylooker, the environment of Equestria is more “Classical Liberal” then liberal in the modern American use of the term.

TSaying someone “leans Left’ is less menaingful if you accept the “Libertarian” as a legitamate moderate option.

It is in fact possible to hold both ‘conservative’ and ‘liberal’ positions at once.

We Crossdress Harder
I suppose the real question to ponder is where on the political spectrum the ponies themselves stand.

Rainbow Dash might well support conservative politics to some degree. She is not likely to take a deep interest in politics at all unless it affects her directly, but as she is fiercely loyal and working to join the military, she is likely to take a hawkish stance in any debate regarding foreign policy or military spending. Socially, she is less easy to read; however, she has a certain set of preconceived notions, and though she can be persuaded to consider alternate perspectives through personal experience (such as challenging her “reading is for eggheads” position), issues that do not touch her directly may never be questioned.

As a rural agricultural enterprise owner, Applejack seems the likeliest candidate to take a conservative position. Her large family network and pride in her self-sufficiency make it unlikely that she would support either government welfare programs or the taxes that are required in order to pay for them.

Rarity, the other private enterprise owner, is another story. While her business ownership and keen interest in joining the aristocracy point toward a fiscally and sociallty conservative viewpoint, her involvement in the fashion industry would be likely to expose her to a number of fabulous alternative pony lifestyles, and interest her in supporting those causes. Her generosity would also make it difficult for her to oppose government spending programs desgined to aid those in need, pushing her much closer to the liberal side of the spectrum.

Another pony focused on those in need is Fluttershy, whose meek constant efforts to lobby for increased environmental protection make her a well-known figure crouched under the front desk at Ponyville Town Hall. Though Fluttershy admires both hawks and doves, she does not support miitary spending, and merely wants everypony to get along. This big hippie is firmly encamped on the left.

Twilight Sparkle, as well, enjoys an idealistic view of the political world from her ivory tower research position, even though it has been moved to a wooden tree. Living as she does on a government stipend in a government-subsidized public libarary, she can hardly oppose education spending, and in fact champions it. She can be very naive, and does not always understand the complexities of implementing policies that seem on the surface to be straightforward public good. Aside from a certain amount of support for the military and the diarchy brought on by her close personal ties thereto, she is for the most part a moderate liberal.

Pinkie Pie is an enigma, mostly because when informed that joining one party precluded joining the other, she burst into tears. However, it can be reasoned that with her rejection of her extremely conservative upbringing, her constant desire to make everypony happy, and her occasional reliance on government-subsidized psychiatric care, she would be likely to lean left as well.

Of course, the political atmosphere in which the ponies’ stances developed must be taken into account. The government has recently shifted from a monarchy to a diarchy, with a firmly established aristocracy and royal bloodlines, which normally indicates conservatism–especially since the heads of government are eternal. However, the lack of a strong military, as well as the Princesses’ efforts to encourage egalitarianism even between themselves and the common ponies, point otherwise. Given the rulers’ power, and the need to keep the sun and moon moving (an infrastructural program if there ever was one), their retention of office may be mere pragmatism rather than a belief in divine right. Strict weapons control is in place in Equestria, as the Elements of Harmony are kept locked in a vault accessible only to the Princess, despite their nominal stewardship by private individuals.

Little else is depicted of actual policy at the highest levels of government, but some regional governments have been seen to have elected officials (Ponyville’s Mayor, Sherrif Silverstar), while others (the Crystal Empire) are apparently governed by hereditary rulers. In conclusion, Equestria is a land of contrasts. The only constant is the prevailing desire for harmony above individualism, pushing the needle slightly to the left.

So, in this moderately liberal culture with appparently liberal rulers, four out of six Element of Harmony bearers lean liberal, while two lean conservative. What this means for the conservative brony is debatable, but ought to make good fodder for conversation over a pint or two of privately produced, subsidy-free, market-priced cider.

my family was never bothered by me bring a brony. They’d poke fun at me but it wasn’t like lynching

i’m the only one on my mom’s side that can unjam an assault rifle, so teehee :3c

honestly, my being a brony would be the LEAST of my problems if my family knew everything else about me >_>
Soarin_the_Pegasus

Conservative and a Brony here and I never had a problem. Then again I never talk politics when it isn’t necessary. Politics and ponies should never mix in the first place.

My enjoyment of the show is known and accepted by family members who vote both ways. There isn’t anything inherent in conservatism that makes liking ponies a problem.

In reply to the under 40 comment. “ If your not a libral when your young you have no heart and if your not a conservative when your old you have no brains” unfortunetly or fortunetly as a young man I am swayed not by emotions but by logic.

Would say this right here, but all my friends who lean right (with a few who are quite gun-ho) don’t mind that I like MLP, even when I’m wearing MLP polo shirts. At most they’ll laugh.

Even my very conservative family is cool with it and that I most certainly don’t need to hide it. Heck, they even bought me Zecora out of the blue one day.
