The underlying headcannon being that Equestria has television. But because of various local or regional custom or culture isn’t adapted widely. Those who do watch TV however are not often in favor of high-energy television, as Equestria seems to weekly go through some crisis or magical insurrection of some type or another. Because of the high-stress society, the concept of Slow TV is dominant and ranks as the strongest programming for the Equestrian Public Broadcasting Service (EPBS), and third in the nation.
 
The since expanded version is that: seeing as how much of the state’s defense boils down to six-eight (or nine) plucky heroines who don’t seem intent on pulling massive benefits (except for the princesses who are, or were just that: princesses) EPBS ends up with enough to explore ludicrous conceptual television without remorse.
