Chrysalis feed on loved, at the time when both of them shoot at Chrysalis that when their loved is strong enough to make Chrysalis beam defeat them.

My headcanon is that for a short time, their bond created a spark of real, uncorrupted love that was stronger than Chrysalis initially expected. Of course, Chrysalis still overpowered them soon after because neither of them are attuned to love magic. Just a thought.
