I agree he fucked up badly due to his arrogance he underestimates others, and because he believes in the mane 6 so much he saw them as being able to handle pretty much anything and that they would grow from it and because of his grand power like he says in the finale he saw himself as a safety incase anything were to go wrong

He was referring to the whole “faked being injured by Sombra” crap? Pretty sure it ultimately counts as the same plan due to this whole mess in season 9(with Beginning Of The End and Ending Of The End) is the fault if Discord’s single plan(of Grogar)

Lol that’s literally worse. He created actual threats that caused casualties to the crystal empire and destroyed the tree of harmony. He deserved comeuppance. I was really hoping Celestia and Luna would say “DISCORD! FOR SUMMONING THESE FOUR revives Sombra WITH THE “INTENTION” OF REHABILITATING THEM YOU ARE TO SEE YOUR “MISSION” THROUGH! TAKE THESE FOUR TO YOUR CHAOS DIMENSION AND REHABILITATE THEM! YOU ARE NOT TO RELEASE THEM OR LEAVE UNTIL YOU HAVE DONE SO AND SHOULD THEY CAUSE ANY TROUBLE… YOU… WILL… TAKE… FULL… RESPONSIBILITY!!!”

About the Twilight bit, I feel like in a nutshell with how Luna and Celestia were handled.. just basically “placeholders” until the REAL heroes and the REAL ruler(Twilight) arrives. And once that happens, the sisters are just doomed to be “inferior” to Twilight. Its like the sisters are destined to give everything up to Twilight.  
And Luna really got the short end of the stick in her case. In fact I bet Harmony counted on her becoming NMM so she could be used as a starter villain for the darn plant’s “chosen one”.  
I adore Twilight(adorkable book princess) but I do harbor a bitterness towards her with how destiny(and the Tree of Harmony) seems to have screwed the Royal Sisters(especially Luna) in favor of Twilight like that.
 
As for Chrysalis, poor buggo was in a pretty bad mental state and most likely the only danger she would pose to anyone in that state is to herself(Mean 6 being living proof that what plans she will cook up now is ones that would most likely threaten to get herself killed). She needed help, freaking therapy. Someone to show her the way, not be intended to be used as cannon fodder for the “chosen one” Twilight Sparkle.  
Heck, if Chrysalis was found in that mental state and got locked up, she might have received mental health treatment and probably even reform with the help she gotten.

Lol if the entirety of Equestria wasn’t there to Deus Ex Machina, Discord would have pretty much doomed Equestria, and yeah he traumatized the crystal ponies, Flurry Heart and made the princesses look like fools (seriously after Luna’s banishment I figured she’s be the one to be next in line but of course they had to shoehorn Twilight as the perfect leader princess).
 
Well said. Tirek and Cozy were sealed. They posed no harm. And Discord had to be an idiot, get them into worse trouble and has like no repercussion beyond losing hi powers for like… a day?

And theres the issues of how much damage his plan actually done.  
Like it most likely traumatized the Crystal Ponies with the very monster they all thought was gone for good came back and easily took over(meaning now the Crystal Ponies deep down will now have the fear of Sombra CAN come back again and again). Most likely damaging Cadance’s and Shining Armor’s reputations(probably messing up Spike’s status as the hero of the crystal empire in some way) due to how powerless the two were and had to rely on the Mae 6 to save their flanks. Most likely Flurry Heart got traumatized too from this.
 
And this plan most likely damage the Royal Sisters’ reputations even further too. On their very last days as rulers, they just ultimately fall flat on their faces AGAIN and technically got captured twice. All they could do is just distract the trio and turn the powerless trio to stone AFTER they already have been dealt with.  
It hurts more for Luna’s case since her track record is worse compared to Celestia’s due to losing a 1000 years and the whole NMM fiasco. So her ending her rule on basically a bad note like that hurt so much worse, especially with she didn’t get to rule much long after her return.  
And since the sisters weren’t included in the final rainbow laser despite their cutie marks were on the tree and wielded the Elements before, Discord’s plan basically rub the fact in their face that since the sisters lost the connection to the elements, that’s it for them. Destiny has tossed them aside and won’t even have them be truly acknowledged, just ultimately screwed over.
 
And then there’s the trio, they weren’t threats until Discord got his claws on them. Its ultimately his fault they went off the deep end further like that. He basically screwed them over.  
And doesn’t help that he intended on using them as cannon fodder for Twilight’s confidence(I swear his plan ultimately damage Luna and Celestia’s confidence deep down in the process)

I think he did it KNOWING what would happen.
 
He was bored so he sprung Tirek and Cozy out of Tartarus, revived Sombra and brought Chrysalis together.  
-Right there if he was worried they’d run amok he’d just cast some binding spell that send them to Tartarus or turns them to stone if he gets betrayed by them.
 
He sent Sombra passed all the Crystal Empire’s defenses.  
-Why? Why let him loose? These actions resulted in the death of the Tree of Harmony (which is a huge gain for Discord as it’s one of his few weaknesses)
 
He gave them all a super powered weapon.  
-No safe guard? You’re telling me, the guy that spied on the mane 6 in that maze can’t use any kind of clairvoyance/spectral sight spell to see if they got it or not?
 
He united three of them, all with a similar goal.  
-Why isn’t he trying to push any sort of kindness outside of uniting them for revenge? He could’ve subjugated them, had them hate him more than the mane 6 and be “defeated” by them teaching them friendship.
 
It was just bad writing or Discord is straight up a villain and got away with it, having no punishment or repercussions beyond having his power zapped for a while. He literally nearly doomed Equestria.
