There’s a common stereotype that black people can’t swim. The origins of the stereotype are likely a mix of anecdotal evidence, as well as the documented fact that black people make up a significantly smaller portion of competitive swimming, despite them dominating in most sport fields such as football and basketball, and are even more likely to drown when attempting to swim. http://archive.is/vwAXP
Many have speculated as to the reasons why this is, some argue that a lack of opportunity for swimming for black people during segregation led to less opportunities for swimming to become part of the culture of black communities, others argue that there may be average differences in bone density that make it more difficult for black people to swim compared to whites, in the same way some believe there may be differences in bodily structure that allow black people to perform better as athletes in other sports. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9024231
In any case, the image here is playing with the, “zebras are black people” running joke many have found amusement from.
