Pretty sure the backlash from them reforming wouldn’t be as awful as what actually happened to them.
In fact I think why people were complaining about the reformations is how they kept happening too quickly and/or are just done iffy. Not the reformations themselves.

Honestly why Chrysalis rejected that too is that I am pretty sure she is still not in a healthy state of mind to make rational decisions much. Pretty much it was going to take more that scenario to show her the way.
And the fact she looks like she was “traumatized” by Friendship with how it turned her world upside down and caused her to lose everything. She pretty much needed help to show her the way.
While Discord tries to boost her confidence, he most likely messed up the Royal Sisters’ confidence and reputations due to how his plan would go(be if it went haywire or not, it would most likely end up making Luna and Celestia look bad).
I am sure he messed up Shining Armor and Cadance’s reputations at the Crystal Empire with that Sombra fiasco.
Along with traumatizing Flurry Heart.
