That’s the thing, isn’t it? Celestia and Luna are neither confirmed nor denied to be immortal. It could be that they live for several thousand years before passing, or it could be that they’re truly immortal. Guess that’s up for the individual to decide.
Background Pony #0F54
She could’ve meant that Twilight won’t outlive ALL her friends.
Alicorns have never been confirmed as immortal, all we know is they live a very long time.
Which is the same thing we know about dragons.
If Spike can live as long as Twilight, which is likely, then technically there was no lie.

If the existence of Trollestia (a meme propagated by the brony community) determines the quality of the Executive Producer, then your metrics are in the wrong place. Besides, last I checked, even post-Faust episodes don’t have her utilizing her leadership skills with wisdom (Season 4 finale springs to mind and bronies defend THAT episode because of the concepts of the writing rather than its execution). Whatever your personal opinions are about each individual episode, her influence as an Executive Producer/Consulting Producer is what gave the show the heart and soul that inspired so many to create and coalesce into gatherings like BronyCon (RIP btw, wonder where all that inspiration and drive went…? /sarcasm). Where’s that nowadays?

But, for a matter of perspective, What exactly made later season and/or episodes non-duds compared to the ones in season 1 and 2?

You’re joking, right? You realize Trollestia started in season one, right? And that we never saw even a hint at any leadership qualities from her beyond just being the princess? Faust is good at concepts, but her writing has always been average at best. Hell, season one and two have more dud episodes to me then any other season.

@Disembodied_Pony
Vinyl Scratch existed as is in season one.
Faust’s ultimate goal for Twilight was replacing Celestia from the get go.

True but guarantee Faust would have put the whole alicorn ascension in better light by not having song-and-dance routines replace actual engagement

@Copper Knight
Except she wanted Celestia to be killed instead of just leave, and it was supposed to happen at the end of season 3. I’m sure that would have gone over great.

Well yeah. It was done to Mufasa and Lion King was hailed as a masterpiece of animation. Why cant we do it here?

I wish they kept Faust. Likely there would be no Twilight replacing the sisters. Nor so much modern human earth concepts in the mlp universe. It seemed so much better to me when it was more of a fantasy universe.
Didn’t you like it more when the train and phonograph were the only technologies they had? Canterlot and Cloudsdale were the types of cities that existed? I did.
I’m just left with a sad finality that it’s ending. Kind of like when my father passed away; it’s terrible that it’s ending, but at least the progression of pain is ending too.
And like before, I mourn this loved one as well.

Same; though the big thing that we all should take away from Mrs. Faust is to not talk down to your audience which personally was the biggest thorn in post-Faust MLP. Makes me kinda worried what the “reboot” will have in store; if its anything like EqG and its series, then like Fausticorn died in vain :(

I’m still not believing that this is the case until I see a post from the show staff themselves confirming whether or not this assertion is true.

@ktbcat
It’s not been specifically confirmed that they’re immortal, just that they have WAY longer lifespans, which will lead to the same situation these people are mad about.

@gato
that’s honestly my only issue with her future design. It’s not unique like the other alicorns were. however, it doesn’t ruin the show.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I mean, if we are going to take Celestia as a base she’d probably be fine but there are some factors to consider about this.

  1. Sunbutt and Purplesmart are not the same pony.
  2. Luna was up there in the moon and one has to consider Tia probably felt pretty responsible about that (as a matter of fact, she retired just a few years after getting her sister back), and your sister eventually coming back is likely a BIG BOLD point on the list of reasons to keep going.
  3. Celestia didn’t handle “the magic of friendship” at the same level as Twilight. This is one of the main reasons she’s succeeding her and it will be a big point to consider in a possible future (for good or ill).

    As for how long Alicorns live… We just don’t know… But we do know they are at the very least extremely long lived and the only one who might be different about that is Flurry Heart (since by Celly’s words, she’s the first naturally born Alicorn).

    Anyway, the point is, we can’t tell if the fandom’s grimmest thoughts will be realized or if Twilight will be just fine. But we probably shouldn’t use Celestia as a base when we make assumptions about it.

Also as I was writing this I just realized Twilight had this huge growth spurt and we didn’t get to see how Cadance would look like after the timeskip. Isn’t that weird? Also, Twilight just straight up jumped to Celestia size, so was Luna a “tiny person (pony?)” Alicorn or what?

Actually, I’m curious. Has it ever been CANONICALLY stated that Alicorns are immortal? I don’t recall the MLP Movie, nor the EqG series stating it. Did the last few episodes of the show establish this? Did the comics? If not, then all this drama is based on pure assumption.

Without canonical support, it’s equally valid to say Alicorns simply have incredibly long life spans, and that none of the existing Alicorns will have to live with loss forever.
