I’m terrible at voice-acting. I can act, I can get into character, I can portray emotion, but I cannot freaking change how my voice sounds to fit a character. That’s something they just don’t teach you in community theater.

What about in your own experience? How important is voice in portraying a character, on either side of the table?

DM: In the middle of your… argument, I guess, Angel looks up and starts coughing.
Angel: Ack… Ahem…
Pinkie Pie: Aha! Is THAT your “little rabbit coughing” voice?
DM: Oh, hush.
Fluttershy: Um… is there a bit of carrot stuck in your throat, Angel?
DM: What? No. Er, I mean…
Angel: Ahem, ahem, ahem!
Pinkie Pie: Pfff-ffft! It’s so CUTE! It’s totally unlike you!
Fluttershy: What is it, Angel? Do you need some water?
Angel: A-HEH-HEM!!
SFX: (point)
DM: High up in the sky, there is a thick cloud of black smoke creeping over Ponyville. That’s what Angel was… alluding to.
