It’s far more likely the term is banned for the same reason “derpygate” was a thing; some very creative interpretations of the word equate it to “retarded”, rather than the more commonly accepted “affectionately / innocently clumsy”.
What they’re doing is probably lifting a list of copyrighted names from somewhere and just not allowing them.
That’s like saying, “Fred is banned, so call yourself George or Bob instead.”
