That’s because the confusing thing here is the interaction. Floating wings are usually used to complement the character traits, as we’re used to them. They aren’t an integral part of the picture, they aren’t used, they aren’t needed. It’s the artist’s shortcut to draw a winged character without actually drawing beautiful full-fledged wings. As such, floating wings are effectively imaginary.
 
Here, the character is actually touching the wing, making it real. It’s actually there, and it’s actually detached. That’s actually pretty weird and feels wrong.
 
Now, don’t get me wrong, I like the picture as a whole. The face could have been better, though. I especially love the hand covering the breasts, that looks lovely and actually kinda real. It’s just the wing-that’s-not-a-wing-but-really-is part that ticks me off.
