‘I’m not afraid…. I’m tough… I can survive by myself… I’m…. not…. afraid…’

I was re-watching clips of some episodes of Friendship is Magic over the past few days, and one of the clips I watched was the clip from The Hearth’s Warming Club when Gallus pretty much stated that he grew up as an orphan who didn’t know what it was like to celebrate the holidays with anyone. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofv1P_… Poor guy… And coupled with the fact that the soundtrack of An American Tail came up on my recommendations, a rather sad idea came to mind that I felt like drawing. …..Needless to say, I started welling up a few times drawing this with that James Horner soundtrack when poor Fievel is left on the street and he thinks the street is his home now is playing in the background - that’s inspired the rain here.

I’ve been wanting to draw Gallus again for a while (being one of my new favourite characters in the show and all), but this time under sadder circumstances.

Seen as in some episodes, Gallus has shown he’s had claustrophobia (What Lies Beneath) and he shows interest in preserving the history of the Tree of Friendship to prevent it’s history from being lost (Uprooted - even if some of the stories are a bit exaggerated in order to get bits, because he’s still showing the griffons’ greed), it gave me some inspiration to draw what possible home Gallus would have made for himself as a griffon chick. The conditions would probably be pretty cramped due to the dilapidated conditions Griffonstone used to be in, and seen as the Griffons had lost their culture, I have a feeling books on their history would be pretty hard to come by, but Gallus could possibly try to keep a hold of anything he could find as his only possessions. Even if griffons are naturally stingy and rough towards each other, that would be a hell of a horrible living situation for any child to be in - and in What Lies Beneath when that monster Cozy Glow is cruelly ripping into the Student Six’s insecurities and claiming their friendship won’t last because they’re different species, she’s pretty much telling him his days of having a family and a home are numbered, so I can imagine the poor guy would be scared of going back onto the streets if something were to happen.

(But of course, that makes it all the more happier when he becomes friends with the Student Six and now has a family of his own. But I do still want to give the guy a hug - there are a LOT of characters in the series I’d want to give a hug, but next to Thorax, Fizzlepop and Stygian, Gallus is probably one of the ones I’d want to give a hug most - someone had better hug them or I’ll jump into the TV and do it myself, damnit!)

I’ll bet he’s really descended from the royal family and doesn’t know he’s a prince

So how did Grampa Gruff choose Gallus to represent Griffonstone anyways? Did just see the nearest kid and shouted “Hey, go to school you bum!”
