I’m not at all sure why people waste their time ‘hating’ things, especially a story like this. It might not have been shining flawless diamond quality story, but it wasn’t ‘bad’, and a story is never inherently bad because of a specific ‘thing’ it does, but how good, or badly, it does that thing. Even a ‘powered human self insert’ has the ‘ability’ to be a good story if done ‘well’ instead of just as a pointless power fantasy.
 
As well, regardless of one’s opinion of the story, the scene this image is making fun of was actually a really sad scene… and as a note, was also directly responsible for the actual ‘event’ that causes shit in the story.
 
Perhaps my mind is just ‘too’ open and I have too much imagination, though I don’t believe in too much of such things, but I rather enjoyed the story. Though everyone is quite welcome to their opinion, there is no need to go insulting the story, the author, or people who enjoyed reading it. Honestly, you’re the only ones going around looking to complain about it, I stumbled across this by chance XD

Past Sins was a very very very early fanfiction by a young naive girl probably who are legitimate fans and have the right to make mushy fanfiucs and enjoy it, it became a sort of inside joke because it came early and gained some notorierity. Plus it helped to drive home the whole “BG ponies over OCs” attitude that put us where we are today.
 
If you think young girls in this fandom is what’s “wrong with this fandom”, yeah, no, shut up, you’re being stupid.

That “precisely one fact” about it is all you really need to know about it and whether or not its something up your alley or otherwise. As for the concept “barely even existing”, it exists in the entire story. It exists in the form of Nyx, the creation of the cult itself.

Oh dear. Allow me to put this out there; as I have not read Past Sins, I don’t feel qualified to judge its quality of literature. I can list several reasons why I personally choose not to read it, including several that Sonar has mentioned.  
However, this is simply my opinion. I don’t have the right to say “objectively, Past Sins is a poorly written and terrible fanfiction.”  
After all, Nyx and the story have fans, so obviously someones opinion completely counteracts that. In the end, no one can take a piece of literature and say “this is objectively bad”, because human preference is what makes writing good or bad. Plato, Aristotle, Nietzsche…if no one liked their writing, it could also be called “bad”, simply because no one said otherwise.
 
tl;dr  
Good and Bad is a matter of opinion when it comes to fiction, media, and literature.

you dont even need to read the whole story, the prelude alone is about a cult who wants to resurrect nightmare moon in an actual physical manifestation.
 
The fanfic is absolutely ridiculous and the concept is over the top. I can only imagine how stupid the other 21 chapters are.

In order to feel tension, the audience/reader has to be able to put themselves into whatever situation befalls the protagonist.  
I can’t relate to some ridiculously OP character.
