@northern haste
Well, in fairness she stated she wanted Twilight to later become Celestia’s “successor,” but didn’t specify if she meant “ruler” basically, and stated she didn’t exactly mean “princess.” (But sense Faust said she didn’t wanna step on the staff’s toes, she didn’t wanna give too much away, probably so fans wouldn’t get upset.)
She might’ve meant as a teacher, but in a way the show kinda did that with her school, and such. (Which some fans hated too BTW.)
@Beau Skunky
This might be a bit of off topic to the picture but I remember in one of those Faust worshipper groups someone saying that twilight’s taking over celestia wasn’t just bad FanFiction it was parody of bad FanFiction despite being Faust’s idea
@northern haste
I love Faust, and it a shame we won’t to get to see the show pan out like she wanted, but as I stated before she’s only human, and not perfect either. Some of her original ideas were changed for the better. Like having Applejack head-butting trees, (could you imagine all the head-trauma jokes fans would make?) was thankfully changed to kicking/apple-bucking instead, which works better honestly, and makes more sense. Also, originally Apple Bloom was going to be the only “kid” character, but having the G3 characters Scootaloo & Sweetie join her, and make them a trio was more interesting, and gives the younger fans more younger characters to enjoy.
Also, if Rainbow Dash stayed as “Fire Fly,” we wouldn’t have “Sonic Rainbooms,” and I like to think she made rainbows “cool” again.
I hate to admit it, but sometimes executive-meddling can be a good thing.
@rannius
I’m not devaluing criticism, calling anyone in this thread hateful, or attacking anyone’s opinions here.
That said, anytime I have few complaints about an episode, or say I like a somewhat controversial ep’, I get attacked for my opinions. Then if I negatively criticise something instead, suddenly I get attacked for that too.
So I’ve been attacked by both extremes, so don’t assume I’m against negative criticism, or label me some kinda “Hasdrone,” and such. I’ve given my fair share of criticism, as well. (In fact, honestly I stopped watching Equestria Girls, as I lost interest in it.)
All I’m saying is there’s extremes on both sides, and not just “positive” side.
Still, if people aren’t bothered by the “bad animation/facial expression” quality in the above embeded video, don’t I have a right to disagree with this, and you guys, as well?
And I actually do kinda miss Jason, but it’s not like his departure has made the show unwatchable. Heck, some former fans insist the show’s been uwatchable sense halfway through Season 2 when Faust left.
If somebody watches 209 episodes of a thing and has literally no complaints then it’s completely fair to call them mindless.
Or maybe they’re just a casual fan who isn’t as into the show as we are.
That said, I’ve had my complaints too, but very few honestly, does that make me mindless too?
Maybe, but it’s irrelevant in this case since animation is the opposite of a minor thing.
just because some fans have […] no complaints about the show, doesn’t make them mindless
If somebody watches 209 episodes of a thing and has literally no complaints then it’s completely fair to call them mindless.
There is a difference between negative criticism/critique, complaining, and downright bashing, or being hateful, and some fans need to realize they aren’t really entitled to the series alone. (And like it, or not it is a kid’s/family toy-etic show.)
Nobody here was hateful, everybody is entitled to a better show and if the last part was true then Faust could have never developed a concept that went on for 9 years. Really, these 3 are just the same years old throw-away lines used to devalue valid criticism.
About the last part, criticism can also be discussed among fans with the possibility of others ever seeing it. But that doesn’t matter anyway since people did voice the same points to the show runners and it turned out to be futile as Jim & co. weren’t interested in pesky little things like “feedback” or “improving”.
Also there are certain universal standards, like anatomical correctness, that they should strive towards. Jayson Thiessen always cared about that one and his departure is sorely noticeable.
@Beau Skunky
Why do a lot of the non-IDW comics use those same lame vectors over and over again? The characters’ expressions never change, and half the time they’re not even looking at each other. Is it because most of those “official” comics are for kids, and they figure kids won’t know the difference, so who cares?
@rannius @Gizmo
Criticism, is fine, but some fans go overboard, or nitpick minor things too much, as well. So there are opposite extremes.
And just because some fans have very few, or no complaints about the show, doesn’t make them mindless, or “against criticism.”
There is a difference between negative criticism/critique, complaining, and downright bashing, or being hateful, and some fans need to realize they aren’t really entitled to the series alone. (And like it, or not it is a kid’s/family toy-etic show.)
Also, as for it “making the show runners do a better job,” honestly I don’t think they listen to criticism on an image archive website like this, or even come here, (Sibsy was the only show staffer I remember whom used to sometimes come here, but she no longer works on the show.) so you can’t really expect them to see them here, or expect it to make the show 100% to your personal standards. (And everybody has their own standards, so no matter what, they can’t please everybody, or cater to every fan demand.)
On top of all that, it’s kinda pointless to complain, seeing as the show is ending.
Lastly, there’s always a place for criticism, no matter how far along a project is. Movies are one and done, with no chance for input from outside sources, and yet people still think criticism is valuable for them. Without discussion, how are you meant to know if you did a good job, huh?
Sadly a big part of the fandom has the exact opposite opinion on criticism, be it writing, animation or something else.
After all, it’s just a show for little girls.
I know there’s no accounting for taste, but can we agree that the faces should either stick to the established design or change the facial design, but do it 100% percent of the time?
@Beau Skunky
Yes, we all saw the first time you made that comment: there’s no need to repeat yourself.
Anyway, I’d like to address a few points raised in the thread.
First of all, while some of these are “a few frames”, most of these are last more than a few seconds. The cheap animation also isn’t limited to the faces, look at >>2047892 for another instance of off animation. Luna not only moves before the lid touches her, but she move unnaturally fast and stiffly.
I know there’s no accounting for taste, but can we agree that the faces should either stick to the established design or change the facial design, but do it 100% percent of the time? When you’re constantly switching in-between the two it’s just distracting.

The face game for season 9 is on point - talk about going out with a bang. I hope we get lots of high quality faces like this in the second half of the season.
@Nightweaver20xx
Just because this season is the last season means we shouldn’t voice the problems we have with the said last season? I am not trying to be even condescending here or attack anyone, these faces just look unappealing, they look wrong, they never looked this off, in any other season, what does that tell me?
When I voice my criticism, I don’t want to make you feel bad for enjoying the show in its current state or something.
S9 has many problems, and this is one of them, when we are talking about animation I am also not a fan of how many humanized poses S9 has given us, this has been a problem that became more and more prominent, but it got really bad in S9, same for the show’s writing which has been lacking all across the board.
I wish criticism of this kind wouldn’t be recuded to “/mlp/ punks” from people in the comments, there is a genuine problem with the facial expression of S9, the models seem off, these are just few of the examples, keep in mind these faces do not intend to be “funny”, but to be normal faces used dudrin a conversation.
OP could have picked many instances from Beteween dark and Dawn, as that episode is full of things like these.
Yeah, in fact some still hate the whole school “gimmick,” or “Student Six” side-characters.
That’s nothing new either, heck I remember in the Season 1 days, some fans were hating on the CMC for “ruining the show.”
That’s kind of what successor means though And if she did mean teacher guess what people got up so over that as well
Well, in fairness she stated she wanted Twilight to later become Celestia’s “successor,” but didn’t specify if she meant “ruler” basically, and stated she didn’t exactly mean “princess.” (But sense Faust said she didn’t wanna step on the staff’s toes, she didn’t wanna give too much away, probably so fans wouldn’t get upset.)

A funny thing about that is I think somebody’s people don’t even know what the flawless Faust actually wanted

Actually I heard that John Kricfalusi creator of ren and stimpy hated working for filmation because he was forced to stay on model

(This is an official German MLP comic BTW, so yes, it’s an official product.)

Nah, it’s more fun this way (IMO)
Not sarcastic at all - I love ’em. I love when the animators just cut loose like this - it makes for a more fun end product.

OK, so it’s bad. So it’s shit writing and shit animation. Good thing we won’t have to worry about it next year, eh?

Maybe you should write DHX and complain about it. Maybe they’ll change it next seas– oh, right.
