You guys say unintentionally neglectful because their job requires them to be far away from their daughter, but do you guys really feel like a job should get in the way of a parent/child relationship? Do you guys really feel like this is more important than the bonds created?
 
I have a distant father that I don’t see since I was a teenager and I really didn’t like how the parents didn’t receive even one warning for their decision over their daughter’s bonding. I really don’t like how this subject was treated on the show, but at the same time I understand how the staff wanted to make it appear that it’s normal that your parents can’t take care of you because of their jobs so kids nowadays don’t grow up sad.

Fair point but still not retcons. I’m sure the characters can interact offscreen. Also, Sweetie and Apple Bloom have seen Scoot’s aunts in the books and in the comics. So there’s that.

I was referring to how suddenly all these characters met Fluttershy’s brother offscreen. Again, Shining Armor was handled much better with the rest of the mane six being surprised that Twilight had a brother.

I don’t really see these as retcons. Introducing characters that weren’t revealed before isn’t a retcon. The show never said Fluttershy was an only child or that Scootaloo had no parents. So it’s not a retcon.

Thank you. Funny enough, Scootaloo’s mom is named after Jane Goodall. Jane Goodall’s son stayed with her in Africa a few years but eventually, he went to England to go to school. I’ve read books on her and watched documentaries about her and there were moments where she talked about being concerned about the safety of her son (Chimpanzees are very dangerous creatures and so are a lot of the other wild animals in Africa). She loved her son but the two had to part ways during that period of time but it was ultimately for the best that he stayed in England where he was safe and could interact with children his own age.

They really are pulling out all the shots for this season!

It’s definitely not a model of being a good parent, but its not abuse. Abuse would have been leaving her to fend for her own, or even putting her to an adoption home. Scoots would be more of a latch-key kid, coming home to an empty house but still having parents making arrangements for guardians for her.

Not on purpose, their jobs simply required them to travel farther outside of Equestria resulting in them being unable to interact with her as much as they’d like to. Even real-life parents have to go through that sort of thing from time to time.
 
Like I said, there’s a difference between abuse and unintentional negligence, I suggest you learn it.

Its clear at the start of the ep that the parents have made long term arranged with the aunts, other townsponies like the Cakes, and now RD to watch over Scoots during their extended trips. Its not like she needs someone watching over her 24/7 (looking at you AJ). And the primary reason the parents want Scoots to go with them is that they are worried about her safety now with the reappearance of Sombra and the destruction of the tree (blissfully unaware of the true villains at play)
