Try driving a semi. Crossing through Jersey to Connecticut along I-95 is expensive. GW Bridge alone costs between 77 and 85 bucks. And dont forget the EZ post-it costs 105 then.

And I thought being an Uber driver in the NYC area (I’m in NJ) was a lot of overhead… I make that $70-100 amount in just six hours a day.

But then of course there’s gas costs and $80-100 a week is accurate. Then of course there’s tolls, both to get into NYC (it costs $15 to cross into NYC from NJ through the GWB and the Holland and Lincoln tunnels), and to travel within the NJ Turnpike and GS Parkway. I used to use E-Z Pass but it was costing me $150 a month as a flat monthly fee…

oh I’m really sorry about that if it’s so bad how come you don’t quit or get a new job or is that not as easy as it sounds

You know nothing of the real world it seems, let alone cost of living in a place like New York. All things considering, his position means getting another job won’t necessarily be easy or pay enough to warrant switching over from being a cab driver.

I don’t think I could ever live in that city, or anywhere on the east coast for that matter

It is easily add up to over $200 for a 12 hour shift. All you can make is, $70 to $100 in 12 hours of non stop driving. Leasing is a lot cheaper than owning your own vehicle because you have to pay the medallion which cost $600,000. That’s not all, $600 for renewing your vehicle license every two years. Taxi safety inspection is every 4 months and it costs $40 each time you inspect it, another $4000 a year to repair your cab, insurance is around $4000 to $7000 a year. Gas is out of your pocket and depends what car you drive, you pay about $80 to $100 a week. We get tickets from parking our cabs to rest, there’s no place for us to park legally, sometimes restaurant owners kick us out for eating in because they don’t like cab drivers. We get pushed over by the law so many times which is outrages. We are the most hated people in the entire city of New York.

The reality of a NYC cab driver. I deal with a lot of crap at work and here as well, I’m not a happy person and don’t try me.

So, are those figures what he’s got to hand over to the comapny, or what they will pay him to drive? I’ve never been in NY to know.
