My problem is the uncontrolled bias in the internet, and how those of far leaning stances get into powerful positions of the site and silence those who disagree with their political agenda. It’s even present here, but it’s not exactly something I wanna go into at this time since this isn’t what we’re debating.

Left or right, it’s a huge problem, and I hate it. I hate corruption, I really fucking hate it.

Personally I’m kind of between Cult of Dusty and The Amazing Atheist on this, where each one dedicates content against the other side more often. But these videos I think highlight the worst of the less talked about side of the issue.

I’ve seen the kinds of people that started the bullshit - I’ve SEEN people who defended the disgusting “Ghostbusters” 2016 by literally saying that men who didn’t like it were just somehow sexist despite it being a completely trash film regardless of the genders of the damn characters. I have SEEN those people, the neo-feminist freaks, and I’ve seen Black Lives Matter freaks take their issue WAY out of proportion and literally just rant about how much they hate white people. Believe me, I’ve seen that - the “SJW problem” isn’t entirely bullshit because there ARE plenty of people who are nuts on that spectrum - hell I’ve even seen neo-feminists who LITERALLY try to argue that GAY MEN are bad because they hate women or something, which is perhaps the most politically ironic thing you could do. But even still, with all that in mind, the meme that this has started has gotten way out of hand.

The “anti-SJW” movement has become…so god damn muddled, so irrational, so STUPID, that they’ve become exactly what they fight if not worse. The worst part is, people like the ones highlighted in these videos, actually give ammunition to what I believe are still real “SJWs” who are wrong on the other side. I mean look at these examples of people being GENUINELY stupid in their conquest for “owning the libs”, and you could easily tell that yeah, somewhere they’re giving a false sense of validity to some tumblr feminist who’s taking it too far in the other direction.

This is why I can’t respect any of the political backlash over Brie Larson. Like I said, I don’t really like her either, I think her comments were stupid, but the way it’s being blown way out of context and out of proportion, as if she’s somehow worse than the average hollywood actor or that she’s “out to get white people/men” is absurd.

I think it’s especially hilarious that so much negative buzz was blown for her stupid movie when in the end it turned out to be “sort of okay” but otherwise an extremely underwhelming film in the MCU. Hardly worth getting offended over at all, just a great big meh.

@Vinyl Fluff
So you’re just going to ignore everything I said except the part about her winning an Oscar. Okay, cool, whatever.

Yep. You tried the “You just think she’s a femnazi” card. Clearly any chance at a rational debate is gone now.

Not every fucking female celeb is a person who hates men and wants genocide.

I will say it is very prevalent in places like Twitter, Reddit, etc, who call for “Mayocide” and a mass male Holocaust.

To one comment, with the shit I’ve seen on both sides, I can’t see how the “Anti-SJW” movement is worse, not with the shit they say and with their hypocritical double standards on the internet with admins and moderation. But some really like hating on Hollywood.

“About a year ago, I started paying attention to what my press days looked like and the critics reviewing movies, and noticed it appeared to be overwhelmingly white male,” Larson told Marie Claire interviewer Keah Brown
Shock, her press junket had white males in an industry full of white males. So horrible! Let’s not judge them based on the quality of their work; instead let’s boil them down to their gender and race and get them kicked off the team for that alone. Qualifications? Experience? Nope, kick ‘em because they’re overly white and male!
And then you’ve got her comments about how she doesn’t want white men to watch her movies because they’re not for them.
Nowhere in that statement you provided does it say anything about judging critics based on their color or gender, nor does she advocate kicking them out because of either of those two things.

In fact, you’re missing a fair amount of context here. Her comments were made as part of an award show acceptance speech in light of (and somewhat about) an (at the time) recent study by the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, which had determined that, despite making efforts at increased inclusivity among the critic community, the vast majority of film criticism was still being written by white men. Her opinion stemming from said study was that she thought it would be nice to hear a more diverse set of voices when it came to film review, particularly for films that were intended to speak, either thematically or aesthetically, to groups with experiences and viewpoints outside the “white male” perspective. She then finished with announcement that the Sundance and Toronto film festivals had pledged to earmark something like twenty percent of their press invites for that year to minority critics in an effort to provide more diverse coverage.

So no, this wasn’t a situation where she “wanted white males off her press tour simply for being white and male”. It wasn’t even something she suggested. All she did was draw attention to already existing under-representation, and voice the idea that it might be nice if that wasn’t the case. And unless she secretly controls those film festivals, the fact that they decided to make an effort in that area is entirely unrelated to her.

And all that other stuff aside, the fact of the matter is, she’s kind of right (even if it might have been a bit poorly expressed. The point of criticism is not, as people seem to forget, some binary “see it, it’s good”/“don’t see it, it’s bad” situation. The ability to articulate why a movie is interesting or terrible or unique to you in a specific way, or what it is about the film (good or bad) that creates an emotional impact, is often highly dependent on subtle, nuanced aspects of the medium interacting with ones own own taste and background, and the more diverse the sample of people providing these explanations, the more likely it is that they can interest ordinary people into seeing something they might otherwise have passed over or missed entirely.

What the Fluff?
“Am I saying I hate white dudes? No, I am not.”
Almost as if you’re misinterpreting what she said to fit your narrative. Don’t get me wrong; there’s a lot of shit getting flung at white people nowadays. But we aren’t talking about some Tumblrina who wants all white people to die, we’re talking about an Oscar-winning (I’m serious, look it up) Hollywood actress who is about as left-leaning as the average A-list actor tends to be these days (check out Mark Ruffalo or Chris Evans’s Twitter pages to see what I’m talking about).

So the fact that she won an Oscar means … what exactly? You can still do crappy things and have Oscars, you know. There are plenty of terrible people who just so happen to be actors who also won Oscars as well. She still wanted white males off her press tour simply for being white and male. Purely based on their race and gender. That’s a shit move.

But fine, continue living in your fantasy world where Brie Larson is a raging feminazi trying to bring about a white Holocaust.

Talk about trying to fit a narrative.

I don’t really like her, but I think people in general have taken what she is and blown it WAY out of proportion. It’s sad, really. This whole “anti SJW” movement. The people on that side have actually become worse than the people they freak out about. It’s hilarious how many of them are literal urban dictionary examples of snowflakes. Most of them especially on youtube now are just chasing their own shadows, ranting about invisible enemies that aren’t even there.

I wont lie, my dislike has nothing to do with anything she has said, and I have not seen the movie. I (and I mean no disrespect or offence) just find this to be both a poor edit, and what ever joke your trying to make, makes no sense to me (like I said before I dont get it lol)

What the Fluff?
Why all the dislikes?
Some people are really buttmad at Brie Larson for talking about politics in an interview

You missed the part where she started basically hating on men and saying she doesn’t care if they like her movies or not because “they’re not for them.” Also pitched a fit about how her press group needed fewer white males.

Then after getting PR flack, she gave an insincere public statement saying “she didn’t hate men or white men.”
