It’s best we not mourn it, but be proud it and G4 was one of the things that defined the 2010s. G4 and EqG may end but it these will go down as being the most memorable and influential of the generations.

That’s not going to happen honestly. At best you have cameos that don’t really amount to much and Nick Confalone already said Sunset won’t be in the show.

I mean that reads like your personal headcanon imo. Being honest she’s been to Equestria multiple times, she has the portal open but chooses not to use it except emergencies, all she does is write to Twilight and she hasn’t shown a lick of homesickness. We’re past the stage of “right reminders”. It would extremely out of character for her for all of a sudden consider her future in Equestria during the finale, there’s zero build up for her character and her character has been shown to very comfortable in her current station.

I hope they firmly tie it into FiM before it goes (like a reference, or hell: Have Sunset help battle Grogar).

I agree with you on that, Boulder Media should keep producing EQG. they’ve done a great job on the shorts, I do hope the do more. I’m a huge EQG fan.

I still think she would start to have these feelings just at the fact that she would no longer be in high school, making her future a total blank, something that hadn’t occured to her before.
 
There’s also the idea that the reason she doesn’t think much of Equestria is because she doesn’t think she has a lot to go back to, which can also change with the right reminders.
 
I’m just saying, I do think there are ways to logically make this work. And besides, there would need to be an emotional core like that to make the story complete.

And here I thought I was having a good time with my life until these news started to pop-up on my Twitter timeline.

I doubt this mean the end of Equestria Girls for now. I guess Hasbro decided to move EQG to Boulder and keep everything else the same. Although Ishi’s departure is a huge low.  
At least they could give EQG a proper ending just like the show.

Sunset doesn’t seem to even care about Equestria at this point or at least she’s been shown to be rather indifferent on screen. Based on the books released she cares more about making apps than anything else. There’s nothing much else to explore on that front since the only glaring thing was a fleeting mention of Celestia during the 2nd movie to FF. Any other potential ties lies in the realm of headcanon imo

There’s the magical leaks from the portal finally becoming a serious, possibly world-threatening danger, causing the girls to finally confront it once and for all.
 
I also feel Sunset’s future and ties with Equestria need closure as well. Ishi Rudell has said she belongs in the human world, and it does make sense that Sunset would come to that conclusion, but such a decision should really be made concrete in-universe.

Knowing FiM is ending this year, this is more than likely the end of EqG, or at least the G4 version of it.
 
Shame, there are so many things I think it could have done to become better than FiM, but there was almost always just something that prevented it from reaching its potential, be it the format or Hasbro’s direction.
 
But honestly, if they wrap this up with a big finale that provides closure to all the loose ends, it would more than make up for all that IMO. Let’s hope we get that.

I mean , it wouldn’t make sense to keep EG going if G5 “changes” the character personalities of the G4 characters, or even the framing of the series.
 
It would just be nice to have closure of EG to some extent. I’m not exactly sure what that is yet as the things we’d wanted out of Sunset’s redemption - Celestia’s apology, and having at least some of the humane 6 visit pony - have happened.

I enjoy EQG i would hate to see it go.

On the one hand, there’s quite a bit of potential still left in the EQG franchise and it would be nice for it to continue G4 after FIM ends.
 
On the other hand, given how bad the last two specials were and how what’s rumoured about the next one definitely doesn’t sound like an improvement (not to mention most of the shorts being kinda average at best), it might be best to end it now before things get any worse!
