Fair point. It was a little bit softer in style and tone but G3 still had its momnets of conflict and peril like that case. I honestly don’t hate G3.
Aaaah, yes G3… The Generation where a mare nearly fell to her death, after her hot air balloon bursted… Yeah…. G3 was no stranger to dark themes… G3.5 tho…….

Oh, I know about how dark G1 was. I’m talking mainly about the stuff released between My Little Pony n Friends and FIM.
Basically what I was getting at. Escape from Midnight Castle had the ponies be kidnapped by demons and turned into monsters by Tirek (who looks and sounds a hell of a lot more intimidating than his G4 counterpart).
You clearly haven’t watched G1…
Despite having cute moments and elements, early MLP was actually quite dark (no surprise since the first special came out in the 80s and the 80s was full of stuff like that).
It was a bit like that in his first appearance. For an adult who has been consuming fiction for years, she was a very obvious villain, but not so much for the small children to whom the series is directed.
If you don’t end up waifu-ing Wind Whistler, Twilight and Kimono, after watching all the older gens, I’ll eat my non-existing hat.

No. This happened in 2011. Basically, the show was airing at this point but it was still fairly early as far as G4 goes.

Not quite. This was an attempt to remake Newborn Cuties for G4… I don’t think they were very successful, but I did see a Rainbow Dash toy from that line at a department store as recently as last year.
I think that’s just when the video was uploaded. The actual ad is from like 2011…before Hasbro was aware of us bronies.
