@Scrounge
OK, the thing with the geese, you got me there. But I like to think that Shining wasn’t being serious about them and only had them to make things fun and silly for his little sister. That’s probably not the case, but I would like to think it is. As for the Magic bubble, it just stops things from outside, teleporting inside. I don’t think it was meant to cancel out all magic from happening within its sphere of influence, just meant to keep someone from teleporting in an army or a bomb right into the throne room, bedchambers, etc. Think of it like wind outside of a house. A person inside wouldn’t feel the wind from the outside, but could still feel the breeze from a fan inside the house itself.
@Matt23
…Fucking piece of shit computer just glitched the entire thing I had the post nearly done in and now I have to start from scratch….
ANYWAY.
The exact words were:
The castle is surrounded by shards of Queen Chrysalis’ throne. Thanks to Star Swirl, its anti-magic powers are now tuned to stop anycreature from using a spell to get inside.
As Rarity is able to use telekinesis unimpeded and Luna is able to teleport the crown to Spike, it seems fair to infer that it does not stop magic inside.
And where are you getting the “easily” part from? I’m not saying anyone can do it, just the one individual who presumably made the damn thing in the first place and thus has some measure of expertise with it. And she’d still have to get to it first.
…Let’s start over, pretend I gave the joke answer, and agree to disagree before we wind up hating each other more than we already do.
@Scrounge
A valid enough reason is that it’s just too fucking stupid, even for royal guard standards, to use an artifact to guard the palace that someone else can easily alter. It’s even stated that starswirl tuned the fragments to work against ANY creature. That includes changelings.
@Matt23
I grasp the concept just fine, you’re just pulling random comparisons out of thin air instead of giving a valid reason to think that it couldn’t be tampered with if someone managed to get to it.
@Scrounge
I used “half-assed metaphors” to describe the objects current state since it was obvious that you didn’t grasp the concept. Nobody, and I’m pretty sure that includes star swirl, can change it. It prevents anyone from teleporting in, but it won’t stop someone from just walking through the front gates.
@MARINEav8r
I’m not saying it wouldn’t. Back before this degenerated into half-assed metaphors, what this was originally about is modifying it, not bypassing it. In other words, yeah, she’d still have to get to it, but if she did, I see no reason to think she couldn’t alter it just as easily as Star Swirl did.
@MARINEav8r
Exactly. And if your locksmith has disguised herself as your wife and brainwashed you, and then later came back and kidnapped your whole family, maybe you should consider using someone else’s locks instead.
@Scrounge
I didnt say the worlds only shovel. Besides, the whole thing was just meant as an example. Though I think a better one would’ve been locking yourself in a room and then tossing the key outside and then losing it. No one can unlock the doors cause the key is missing
To quote Purple Smart from the S7 finale: “He’s Star Swirl. He can do anything!” He altered the properties of the stone, because much like the purple ones, Star Swirl’s magic is hax.
It’s possible that the fact it was shattered necessitated a function change, to not nullify absolutely everything within the field, only on the perimeter.
It seems like it’s protection from teleporting in, or from the whole place getting Tirek’d from the outside.
Now, could this go wrong in some way? Well, if there’s a traitor in the midst, probably. Could be a case of it simply being shut down in the end.
Yep
Hopefully the heroes decided to destroy those stupid things after that happened.
NO! DO NOT START THIS UP AGAIN!
Right. I’m not disputing any of that. But a person inside the house will feel the wind from outside if someone opens the windows.
All I’m saying is that if she does manage to get into the house, there’s nothing stopping her from opening the windows.

Take 2:
@Matt23
After the thing with the geese, I’m not sure anything is too stupid for Royal Guard Standards. :P
A valid enough reason is that it’s just too fucking stupid, even for royal guard standards, to use an artifact to guard the palace that someone else can easily alter. It’s even stated that starswirl tuned the fragments to work against ANY creature. That includes changelings.

I think it’s implied that star swirl modified it to include changeling magic
And you say this based on what, exactly?
ugh, the fucking lock has been modified to the point where not even the original maker can pick it.
Exactly. And if your locksmith has disguised herself as your wife and brainwashed you, and then later came back and kidnapped your whole family, maybe you should consider using someone else’s locks instead.
Try only the locksmith can unlock the door.
Unless one of the people trying to get in is the locksmith who made the lock on your door.
I didnt say the worlds only shovel. Besides, the whole thing was just meant as an example. Though I think a better one would’ve been locking yourself in a room and then tossing the key outside and then losing it. No one can unlock the doors cause the key is missing
Only if you’d killed the person who made the World’s Only Shovel TM so they couldn’t make another shovel.
While we’re at it, how did you fill in the hole?
itd be like burying the only shovel so deep underground that trying to dig it out by hand would be next to impossible
Yeah, questioning Star Swirl’s aptitude is… kind of like doubting an avalanche’s ability to kill you, lol.
It seems like it’s protection from teleporting in, or from the whole place getting Tirek’d from the outside.
Now, could this go wrong in some way? Well, if there’s a traitor in the midst, probably. Could be a case of it simply being shut down in the end.
