And so the EqG humans spent the rest of their spring break as ponies at Twilight’s castle. Twilight had to mark each guest so that she wouldn’t get them mixed up with the same ponies from her world though.

That joke of the portal producing clothes has actually been done into a picture/comic by one of our fellow artists.

My theory:  
. The mirror/portal made clothes for Princess!Twilight´s “coat” the first time she crossed to CHS (EQG1).  
She left this clothes at human!Rarity´s place and crossed back to Equestria while wearing her Fall Formal dress, it became her new “coat” (identical to the one she had initiall).
 
. In Rainbow Rocks (EQG2): Because she mixed the mirror and Celestia´s Book magic, all the stored data got “reseted” (or alternatively, since some of the hairs of her coat fell & regrow over the months, the “Fall Formal” dress “data” contained in it got corrupted); so when she crossed to CHS again, it give her another identical “default clothes” for her.  
-> She came back to Equestria with those same “second default set” clothes and did not changed later on the mirror when she crossed again to CHS at the end of Friendship Games.
 
. Sunset Shimmer´s clothes were different in “Mirror Magic” than what she was wearing in EQG1, yet she came back (with Starlight Glimmer) preserving what she was wearing [specially her geod, that she seems to “absorb” inside of her body in Equestria and also changes her aura magic from green to red].  
-> Again in Forgotten Friendship, her clothes are different but the mirror seems to “store” them and her geod inside her body and “restore” them when she comes back.
 
Now in this special, the “sand portal” does:  
. All the clothes & geod PLUS accesory (“hat”) of humane!RainbowDash -> coat/mane  
. All the clothes & geod of Sunset -> coat/mane  
. All the clothes & geod of Sci!Twi -> coat/mane + glasses (reshaped to fit muzzle, ears support removed)
 
Then: Since it is “smart” enough to realize that Sci!Twi needs glasses to see (while all the rest is “unnecesary” because the fur/coat/mane fullfills the same purposes); it may also “know” that for human!Applejack having that cowboy hat represents not a “practical reason” (Sun protection) but an emotional one . . .  
-> If she lost the original one in the past, the “sand portal” may just had given her a “facsimile” made FROM HER MEMORIES (efectively better than the real one, as it contains the smell of her father).

Question:  
Applejack had her hat on when she got off the boat?
 
How could she have it when she arrived at Equestria?
