To be fair, a lot of mythology is like that. Like vampires whose weakness is they have to stop and count any pile of rice they pass XD
Also apparently regrowing a mane is something not even the most powerful magic in Equestria can do. The limitations on what magic can and cannot do in this series are extremely weird.
It might be what they’d have to do. For all the things magic was capable of in the show, healing seemed to be the most difficult. They had healing potions but healing spells really didn’t seem to exist :D
Why not go as far as magic cigars that have all the pros with none of the cons?
They have potions to regrow broken teeth, they can probably cure cancer too :D
