Rarity doesn’t understand the appeal of comics at all, but she’ll be damned if that’s gonna stop her from being able to discuss them with Moonstone. Luckily, she has a wife who knows great study methods, has had to listen to ramblings about different comics for years now, and who can’t complain about someone else staying up late to study. Twilight doesn’t mind; Rarity’s being much too adorable to be upset with over missing sleep.
 

 
To me, Rarity’s parents seem to be very very different from her -or maybe she’s tried make herself different from them? Either way, completely different mannerisms, different talents, and their fashion sense is…yeah. So it wouldn’t suprise me if they had a really hard time relating to each other when Rarity started to develop her interest in clothes and fashion.
 
Dunno if it’s going to be explored in canon, but in my headcanon, them not really getting why she was interested in those things led to them just kinda… steamrolling her with what they liked and tried to make her interested in that instead. And as a kid, some of the most dissapointing moments are when you’ll try to share something you really love, only to find that the adults in your life don’t care about it at all -so this all just made Rarity feel really small and unimportant.
 
This all lead her to take a bit of an extreme approach when it came to taking an interest in her daughter’s passions; no way was she going to let Moonstone ever feel that way. She made sure to know everything she could about her interests, so that she would be able to really talk to Moony about them. …Twilight usually just said that she didn’t understand, but asked Moony to explain it to her while listening attentively. Which Moony was all to happy to do -now she’s the smart one, telling her Mother about stuff!
 

 
Oh, and they’re not talking complete nonsense here. I decided to use drawings instead of words, since the point isn’t the specifics of the conversations, but rather the general topic. But if it’s not clear; Rarity and her parents are just mentioning interests. Then Moonstone and Rarity is essentially talking about character relationships and how a character turning evil will affect them. Lastly, Rarity’s asking Twilight if the understood the family tree of a character right, and Twilight says that it’s correct in one alternate timeline, but the character in that one is a stallion.
