The next gen is likely to be animated in toon boon/harmony; therefore, a few specials have been animated in it, and the recently released “Rainbow Roadtrip” was the main focus behind this one. This was in the 2017-2018 leaks.

What the fyay is up with this new animation style? Is this the new norm for the second half of season 9? Where did this mess come from?

I heard that that is going to be the case, at least that is what everyone around the fandom is saying, Hasbro also said that they are going to be making their CGI a lot better after the finally for the upcoming gen5, and with rainbow roadtrip seemingly using a similar style as the movie I would guess that Hasbro is trying to make this style of art and animation the new thing for MLP. In my opinion, the movie looks beautiful so hearing that gen 5 will look at least a bit like it makes me optimistic that it will be good.
