You can partially thank the Crusaders for gathering Islamic scientific texts and Byzantine art among the rest of their loot. Although outside of giving birth to the Renaissance, the crusades were more detrimental than anything.
Yes, during Antiquity and Middle Ages.
But it all went downhill after Mongol rule. Europeans began to seriously form scientific consensuses starting from the 16th century and exploring other parts of the world, while China decided to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world during most of the latter half of that millennium.
At least the latter prospered…
Ancient Chinese, or Far Eastern “Confuciosphere” education in genera; was full of…. political theories, superstitious mysticism, and philosophies. Not much of the technical stuff.
