Nah, I just looked all that up on the wiki. Literally the first time I’ve ever bothered to actually learn how enchanting even works. Of course it’s been years since I touched vanilla. Mods are too much fun.

Depending on the tool material, you still need a good few levels to make Silk Touch possible. It’s a level 15 enchantment. With a gold pickaxe you could potentially get it from a level 1 enchant if you’re lucky, but with a diamond pickaxe you need to be at least level 7 to get it (and for reference, iron can get it from level 5.) Those are the minimums though, and require you to get the best possible rolls to even have a chance at getting it. You need more if you want to guarantee a chance at it.

I thought you don’t need much experience since 1.8
